About this mod

A complete remake of Vault 21, one of the messiest, laggiest, most poorly designed vaults in New Vegas.

Vault 21 is perhaps one of the worst vaults in New Vegas. It's difficult to navigate with a ton of empty, pointless rooms, and on top of that, it's incredibly laggy due to the horrid light usage in the vault (every single light in the vault has at least 2 lights attached! That's a lot!). Did you know that Vault 21 is supposed to be symmetrical? The original designers apparently didn't, since the vault has tons of asymmetry that just compound the confusing navigation.

This mod completely remakes the interior of Vault 21, changing the entire layout to be easier to navigate and to make more sense. The vault's layout is actually symmetrical now (not counting the parts walled off with concrete by Mr. House), and some of the pointless rooms were either removed or repurposed. The Gift Shop entrance has also been revamped, with windows added to match the exterior and an actual Vault Door entrance, instead of the staircase leading straight into the vault that made no sense.

Also included are a handful of new staff member NPCs to help Sarah Weintraub run the place, after all, she can't have been running the entire hotel by herself. Who serves the drinks at the diner or handles drunken brawls between tourists? Vault 21 now has security officers that patrol the halls, along with new Vault 21 security armor, and a bartender staffing the diner that sells food and drinks.

I've extensively tested to make sure that every base game interaction with Vault 21 functions the same, so I don't believe there will be any issues with NPCs breaking or bugging out. Hopefully.

This mod will require patches for any mods that add new content to Vault 21, such as NPCs or placed objects. Depending on how much demand there is for a patch for a specific mod, I may look into creating patches after release.

Q:
Why is the ESM called "Vault 21 Unbadene"?

A: First, it's Italian, it's spelled Unbadène.  Second, it's more or less a running gag with myself and no one else that my larger Interiors Improved projects be named "Unbadène", ever since I accidentally misspelled "Unbadened" on an older, now abandoned Hidden Valley remake. So, who knows, maybe we'll get more Unbadène projects in the future, maybe even the Hidden Valley one if I get around to fixing it.

Q: Sarah references a control room on her tour, but I can't find it!

A: It no longer exists, primarily due to a mistake on my part.  I redesigned the level and forgot about that line from Sarah.  The control room was more or less merged into a Vault Security Office at the back of the vault, and by the time I realized my mistake, I couldn't add another room to the relevant area without severely complicating manners.  So instead, I elected to just kinda ignore the line.  Sorry!
(Also, the control room served literally 0 purpose. All it had was 2 terminals that did nothing. So, I don't consider it a huge loss.)

Q: Why is the male Vault 21 Security Armor so dirty when the female armor is clean?

A: That's because Obsidian, in their infinite wisdom, didn't include the clean male armor texture from FO3 in FNV, so I had to make do with what I had.

Q: Hey, the dialogue mentions X but that's missing/wrong in the mod! What gives?

A: For some parts, like the aforementioned control room, I just didn't realize it was mentioned until it was too far gone in the development process.  For others, I just think that the missing pieces served no purpose.  There's a *lot* of empty rooms in the original Vault 21, seriously.
