Weapon Proficiency is a system adapted from Borderlands 1, allowing players to customize their gameplay experience by enhancing their chosen weapons. Unlike Borderlands 1, New Vegas introduces a broader range of weapon types which I have incorporated into this system. The weapon categories now include: Unarmed, One-Handed, Two-Handed, Pistol, SMG, Revolver, Shotgun, Assault Rifle, Rifle, Sniper, Explosive, and Heavy weapons. I intentionally decided against further subdividing these categories, such as creating a separate "Energy Weapon" classification, as Fallout: New Vegas lacks sufficient diversity in that area to justify such a distinction.
How does mod work ?
For those who may not be familiar, kills that reward experience points (XP) contribute directly to Weapon XP. Accumulating enough XP will increase your weapon's level, resulting in improved statistics. Each level-up enhances three specific attributes, with Damage always being the first. The other two attributes are predetermined and can be one of the following: Fire Rate/Attack Speed, Reload Speed, Range, Swing Speed, Penetration, or Spread.
Each weapon group has its own dedicated formula that determines how much each level-up contributes to these statistics. I employed a system similar to the Badass Ranks formula from Borderlands, meaning that earlier levels provide more substantial benefits than later levels. The maximum level for each group is set at 50, using a tuned-down version of the standard XP formula for balanced progression. The benefits and progression can be viewed in the Perk Menu, where you can see how your weapon stats improve as you level up.

Known Issues/ Unsupported Weapons
This system requires manual patching to add custom weapons to the form list of this mod; otherwise, those weapons will remain unaffected. As it stands, the mod only supports Explosive, Unarmed, and Melee weapons out of the box. My focus has been on adding support for Fallout: New Vegas and all its DLCs, but I do not create additional patches.
The Light Machine Gun is categorized under the Assault Rifle group, which is intentional, considering that Fallout: New Vegas only features three assault rifles. Given the typical characteristics of heavy weapons, I felt the Light Machine Gun didn't fit as well into that category.
Please note that due to the nature of this mod, it may not be fully compatible with damage modifier mods, as those can make damage-related perks somewhat redundant.
For a more personalized playstyle, I highly recommend using Sweet Perk Overhaul and Stars in conjunction with this mod, as they provide additional options and enhancements to your gameplay experience.
