Description
This is a much simplified and more 'vanilla' version of Harder New Vegas Strip Access. It does the following:
- Increases the amount of caps required for the Gatekeeper's credit check from 2,000 to 4,000. This makes it harder to enter the Strip when first arriving in Freeside, especially if you use a harder economy mod. You will probably need to complete G.I. Blues if you don't have enough caps, and you may benefit from selecting the passport reward instead of the caps if your caps are particularly low.
- Increases the Speech skill check for convincing Ralph to sell you a forged Strip passport from 50 to 70. This makes it harder for low-level characters to cheese the skill check using a skill magazine.
- If you enter the Strip via the Monorail from Camp McCarran, you will not automatically be allowed access via the main gate and will have to pass the credit check still. You can also not leave the Strip to Freeside via the main gate until you enter first by that way. This means that you are stuck having to go via Camp McCarran until you pass the credit check or get a passport.
The credit and Speech check are fully customisable by a INI file. You can also increase the Barter skill check required to lower the price of the passport too (it's left at the vanilla value of 50 by default).
Harder New Vegas Strip Access is a better mod overall as it has more features, but I just wanted a simpler alternative so that I didn't have to think about conflicts for features I didn't use.
Installation
This mod requires the following:
Install with you mod manager or manually add to the data folder.
Uninstallation
This mod can be safety uninstalled at any time and will have no permanent effects on your game. Just delete the file and you're good to go.
Compatibility
Contains a handful of edits to dialogue topics, but this is unlikely to cause conflicts. YUP fixes have been forwarded and a modgroup is provided to hide the conflicts.
Note that when you are talking to Ralph about the passport, there is an option to reject his offer and say that you already have enough caps for the credit check, even if you don't. This actually occurs in the vanilla game too and is unrelated to the mod. I decided to leave this as-is, as the dialogue option uses the obscure 'shared info' dialogue property, so it would be a bit messy to workaround. This is supposedly why YUP hasn't fixed this either.
