About this video

Some recent comments on this mod seem to be complaining that Badlands is "a boring combat mod".

It's true that Badlands is an extremely linear series of arenas, but that's exactly why I like it?
Not every mod has to have 75% of its runtime composed of talking to NPCs and fast traveling around so you can get to where you actually want to be.

It's really refreshing to actually have an opportunity to let loose and put all the high-powered toys you've been collecting over the course of your character's career to use; battling a gauntlet of equally dangerous enemies. (That's the entire point of Lonesome Road's campaign.)

Could the map have been less of a literal hallway? Sure.
Could the story have been just a little more present? Sure.

But the existing mod does not suffer for the lack of these things. In fact, if the map was the typical "open world", I'd probably like Badlands less, because another of its strengths is its excellent pacing. Achillesdave did a good job switching up environments and enemies to keep things interesting over the course of the campaign.

Something that a lot of people who do nothing but play Bethesda Games forget is that linearity is not a bad thing. "Non-linear" and "Open-World" are not statically superior ways to design a game. They have their own strengths and weaknesses just like anything else.

A linear campaign is like a Musical Composition, or a Roller Coaster. It is one continuous sequence with a static beginning, middle, and end. With the right composition, that sequence can be a truly wonderful thing.
