As much as I love the art direction of NMS, the visuals have some distracting issues regarding color and lighting.
So I made a shader to chirurgically fix them all as clean as possible, while staying 100% true to the original graphics and artistic intentions.

In the end CLEAN LOOK is an install & forget ReShade doing only essential modifications while staying invisible in almost all situations.
It barely has any performance loss and no unnecessary effects have been added. It's just NMS, but a bit cleaner.

I: First thing I wanted to address was the overall flatness of the environments and most specifically the brighter-than-skies fog lines.

II: Then, Landmass and atmospheric perspective has also been redone, on planet and in space, in order to have a cleaner lighting Depth.
Result is more clarity and immersion to sceneries, depth planes such as foregrounds, middlegrounds  and backgrounds are now more clearly established and skies no longer share the same value range as the landmass, feeling more behind and aerial as skies should do.

III:
Finaly, the last thing I wanted to change was the color homogeneity of the game that is using the same color intensity all along the value scale, which is pretty flat itself. Now color saturation decreases along the dark side of values, and pushed in the brighter side. Over-powered color luminance is now limited to light sources

This re-harmonisation soften and re rearrange the colors for something more natural and easy for the eyes, without sacrifying the original intentions of the artists or the energy of the visuals.

Some depth contrast is also applied with the color, having close color warmer and darker than those in the background.
Color tinting in the black has been reset and contrast have been redone without crushing any black or over blowing white, in order to make light source pop out.

IV: A bit of smart depth based sharpening  to enhance close objects,  characters textures and volumes while adding a touch of gaussian blur in the background,  to create an additional contrast of details between foreground and background as the last depth enhancement.

INSTALLATION:

01 - First install ReShade Vulkan hook from the "01_INSTALL VULKAN RESHADE" folder:
Launch ReShade_Setup_6.3.3_Addon.exe, locate NMS.exe (usually into No Man's Sky\Binaries folder)
Install the Vulkan option. Skip everything else, don't download shaders, just close the installer.

02 - Last simply drag & drop all the files from inside the "02_INSTALL CLEAN LOOK" folder:
into where NMS.exe is located (usually into No Man's Sky\Binaries folder)

SHORTCUTS:
SCROLL LOCK: toggle effects
END: open the ReShade menu
PRINTSCREEN: take a screenshot

CUSTOMISATION:
You can disable any part of the mod you don't like such as the skies and fog settings, the lighting, the sharpening and the color corrections
Simply click on the technique name from the ReShade menu to disable or enable it.

PERFORMANCES:
It all depends of your own specs, resolution and graphics setting.
I play the game maxed out in 1440p with DLSS quality on i5-13600K, 4070-ti and 32Gb DDR5 and the reshade doesn't cost me any fps at all.
I can only assume you may expect a little performance loss if you play in 4k or if your setup is weak.

VISUAL MODS I USE :
Natural Night,  my must have if I had to keep only one.
HD Clouds 2K
Indoors Lighting Fix
sometimes I also like to use Black Space + Nebulae and Better Torch Light.

That's it !
