Hmm.. you're right; it does cast a shadow - which is kind of weird, seeing as the "lens flare effect" is going towards the bottom left. The shadow should be pivoted a bit to the left.
imho I think it looks a bit off with the shadow, but I see how you find it aesthetically pleasing (Overused term lol).

Ps. If you examine this shot and the one from the compilation you will see that the big tree is "floating" in the group shot, and not in this one. Had to fix it before uploading this one. It bugged the hell out of me.
Hehe, believe it or not - I saw the floating tree! (but I wouldn't be too fussy^^)
Regarding the shadows: I wouldn't say that it looks weird. If you look at the 2 trees left beside the big one, you can see that their shadows point more and more to the left. So the sun is exactly behind the big tree. To me it looks realistic!

PS. What I also really like is this big tree (near the middle of the image) casting a shadow towards the viewer.
