About this image

Well, I thought I lost all my models in a hard drive failure last year but it would seems some have escaped the jaws of oblivion. This is one of those, I worked on this war axe a year ago for Skyrim but unlike some other meshes, this one was stored on an external drive (I was kinda running out of space on my old HDD). It only had the head and a crude half-finished handle, but it was enough for me to to start making something out of it.

The axe is a 3D model of an Iranian axe back from medieval times, my mother in law has one on the wall for decoration and I liked the look of it so I ended up actually making it. It was originally intended for Skyrim with backporting to Oblivion but since I still can't figure out how to export it from Blender and get it working in Skyrim, it will be released primarily for Oblivion and maybe for Skyrim (if I figure it out).

This is a 2560x1600 3D render from Blender, it's not yet exported to nif so no in-game pics for now, I'm currently too busy to get PyFFI and NifScripts to work on Debian but I'll do it when I have some free time. The axe is using 2048x2048 textures for diffuse/normal/specular and has 748 tris (or polygons, whatever you prefer).

I'm still trying to figure out how Oblivion implements normals and speculars though, meshes are different than FO3 ones (never worked with Oblivion models before) and examining vanilla weapons in NifSkope got me pretty much nowhere. I'm thinking of taking apart a modded weapon and taking a look, maybe later.

Also, feedback would be nice, I personally think the axe is decent and fits into the game but since I made it, my opinion is kinda biased. :P

Since everyone have already said their opinion and mine's the same (great, lore-friendly-ish weapon, too new never-used look), I'll only say good luck

@Cthulhu Worship and astrob0y Thanks guys.

@Tobjoern and jobra888 I thought about weathering the wood but I was quite busy at the time so I just slapped a half-arsed normal/specular on what I had at that moment for initial render and completely forgot about it afterwards. That's why I always ask for feedback, I tend to forget the simplest of stuff sometimes.

Anyway, I'll weather the wood texture tomorrow since I'll have some free time, right now I'm too tired and my head feels as if it's going to split in two like a watermelon.

.. that's an awesome looking axe, really
Do you think you can make the wood look a bit more used / weathered with maybe some scratches?

To be honest, I almost never use axes ingame, but I like to collect all kind of weapons.
I like this model and the textures.
Regarding the clean-looking wood-texture I'd say it's a pretty expensive (or brand new) axe, or a display item.
