Xaas and the rest of my kyn had already gone through the gate.
I stood there alone, my first battle was through that gate. I had trained all my life for this, but still, I grew nervous. The words I was raised on raced through my mind:
We do not die. We do not fear death.
Destroy the Body, and the Animus is cast into The Darkness. But the Animus returns.
We feel pain, and fear it. We feel shame, and fear it. We feel loss, and fear it. We hate the Darkness, and fear it.
We serve by choice. We serve the strong, so that their strength might shield us.
Clans serve by long-practice, but practice may change.

I stared at the fiery gate, those words repeating through my mind. I once feared death, but no longer. If I fall in battle, I will be reborn in the waters of Oblivion. I was given a second chance, and I won't let my kyn or My Lord down.
I drew my blade, smiled, and walked through the gate...
