About this mod
Makes the command console unusable. Made by request—if it seems silly then you don't need it.
- Requirements
- Permissions and credits
Yes, that's rather, *ahem*, overkill. This mod is only recommended for those who really can't help themselves and need a drastic solution to keep cheats from ruining their enjoyment of the game.
As a safeguard for accidental presses of the console key, a save named "NoMoreConsole" is made just before your character kicks the bucket. Note that this doesn't work under all contitions (see Known Issues below), so it's best to avoid the console key as if it carried a highly-specific and virulent form of the plague.
Once activated it will work for any new or existing game. It may take up to 5 seconds for it to kick in when first activated. It requires OBSE v0014 or greater.
This mod was made by request, so it's no use telling me it's silly or asking me why in the world would I want to use this.
Manual Install
- Extract this archive to any folder and then copy the contents to Oblivion's Data folder. You can ignore or delete the "omod conversion data" folder.
- Start Oblivion Launcher, click Data Files, and enable the No More Console.esp file.
Manual Uninstall
- Start Oblivion Launcher, click Data Files, uncheck the No More Console.esp file.
- Delete the No More Console.esp file.
The console will be non-lethal again as soon as you load a game.
Known Issues
- Savegames cannot be made while a menu is open, so if you "accidentally" open the console while you have any kind of menu open, no save is made. You'd better hope your last save was recent.
- Apparently, having the PC die while the Options menu is open is something that Bethesda never expected to happen. If you open the console while the Options menu is open, your character will be killed as usual, no save will be made (due to the above issue), AND you'll be unable to close the menu or click any of its buttons. You can still type into the console, though, so you can type "load MySaveGame" (or whatever your last save is called) or just exit from Oblivion by entering "qqq". It's recommended to avoid causing this to happen.
