If I understand this correctly: you want to take clothes from NPCs? If you use Companion Share and Recruit, you can take stuff from people who like you, even if you don't plan on making anyone your companion using the mod.
In any case, I have thought about making a mod that allows the player to barter with any NPC in the game, though I haven't really started with that, though.
GBSRS:
Yes, you can. That was one of the purposes of making the mod, in fact.
Will this mod fix whatever's causing my followers to randomly unequip the gear I give them? I'm using CSR mod, and I think either that mod is conflicting with the radiant AI in a way that triggers this or it's conflicting with other mods I have. I hypothesize it's because CSR lets me recruit NPCs typically unavailable as followers, and giving them new stuff might sometimes cause them to not want it as it's not marked as theirs.
I tried searching online and asking AI chatbots for help, but this mod seems to be potentially the only solution. Yes, I can make them re-equip what I give them with console commands or simply asking to access and then exit their inventory, but I want a more permanent automated solution. The only other NPC mod I have stops friendly fire between faction members, although that does prevent the arena combatants from fighting each other lol.
I downloaded the 2.0 Beta version, and it worked fine the first time using it on a character, but the second time I cast the spell on the same character it does not open the container window it just crashes the game. Suddenly I might add, since it does not even give the usual "program is not responding" message. It just closes.
I moved it down on the load order to see if that was the only issue, but it always did the same thing. I am casting the spell on a custom race companion, slof's snow leopard. Do you think that might have something to do with it?
If you don't mind going into a menu and removing unwanted equipment, and you are also not using any tail slot accessories, then this mod is not for you, unfortunately. The three goals of this mod were to force companions to use certain equipment (even unusual items), to keep those equipment on even after potentially better equipment is in their inventory (by autolooting, the player, durability, etc.), and to keep it as generic as possible (minimal inventory mangling). I would love to add the option of multiple outfits (or even adding things to the companion's menu), but this will have to wait until a way to move select pieces of equipment between inventories is possible without data loss...
I was hoping this mod would allow me to set a casual wear and a combat wear but this wasn't it. There are some companion's where they have that option, such as Viconia or Rhianna, but it's under the companion's menu. It would be great if this worked similarly.
As it stands now, I fail to see how this is helpful since you can access their items and just force their equipment that way. And when you turn off the force equip spell, you still have to access their items and retrieve them so that you can set them up again for later.
How about force unequip or better for duplicate? NPC New Clothes comes with a LOT of great outfits you can not buy, if you not also install each and every esp of the mods it has otherwise integrated. Only chance getting this cloth otherwise is beeing lucky finding someone dead - and i don't want to feel lucky about this (nor console them to death and reanimate them). Make it work only cloth and this would be hardly a cheat. Make it chance based, if you like. Unique Landscapes is already cluttering up peoples Loadorders and your script seems to be a way arround this with NPC New clothes, if even only by accident. Will you do it?
About your mod. Yeah, very great idea. I will download, rate and if it works it will become a must have in my loadorder :-)
A little change in the script and everything is working as it should. Thank you for catching that.
New version is up, so download that, and you should be fine. You'll probably have to cast the power again, as equip behavior is decided when the power is cast.

works well for tail accessories and to get followers to actually wear two rings at once

Oops, wonder how I let that slip by.
