About this mod
Adds Recessive Vampirism that can be triggered by some spells and curses into full Vampirism, but then it can recede after you feed or drink bottled blood. Regular Vampirism that follows Porphyric Haemaphilia is not affected - you can still catch it.

Recessive Vampirism is what is left over after your proper Vampirism is cured. When in remission, you have no vampiric tendencies, curses or boons - you are not a vampire. However, your Vampirism can be triggered by some undead or vampires, so beware of their spells. When triggered, you become a half-way vampire (50% vampirism) with the corresponding abilities, curses and powers. It progresses further like regular Vampirism. Feeding clears the effects completely, regardless of your current stage.
Beware of sun damage! Once relapsed, you are a full blown vampire.
If you are not a vampire, you can still acquire Recessive Vampirism by drinking bottled blood (Living or Undead) or eating Purgeblood Salts (what were you thinking?!). Drinking Undead Blood will also trigger your Vampirism to relapse. Curing Vampirism with the Witch's Potion through the original quest will permanently prevent you from re-acquiring full Vampirism through Porphyric Hemophilia, the same as before. However, curing Vampirism in the pool with Purgeblood Salts will not prevent you from re-acquiring it. In both cases you get Recessive Vampirism once you are cured.
Ageing when becoming a vampire is disabled in order to regain your previous appearance when your Vampirism recedes. However, standard game is not able to return the face back to the original exactly, it will look slightly different. To avoid this and to preserve exactly the same looks, use Scanti's Vampire Race Disabler.
As a vampire, you have to feed at least occasionally. For every day that you go without feeding, your endurance drops by 1 point. It is restored when you feed. This applies both to standard Vampirism and to the relapses of Recessive Vampirism.
You can have Recessive Vampirism and become infected with Porphyric Hemophilia, unless you have taken the Witch's Potion from the original quest earlier. If you cure the disease in time, you do not turn into a vampire but retain Recessive Vampirism. However, if you let it develop into full Vampirism, then Recessive Vampirism is removed, as you are now a proper vampire. Feeding reduces your Vampirism as usual instead of removing it. Curing Vampirism leaves you with Recessive Vampirism, and the circle begins again.
Version 1.1: Upon feeding vampirism is reset to 25% as in vanilla Oblivion.
Version 1.2: Upon feeding vampirism level is dropped by 25% to the previous stage, and you have to feed again to drop it further. For example, if you were a 100% vampire, feeding will drop you to 75%. Feed again to be dropped to 50%, and again to 25%. Thus it requires you to feed three times to drop from 100% to 25%.
Also in version 1.2:
- Adds Vampire Feed lesser power if you have Recessive Vampirism. This allows you to feed even when your vampirism is in remission. Beware of feeding on vampires - this has consequences! Similarly, if you are clear of vampirism, drinking blood - living or undead - is not as harmless as it used to be. Even the Witch's Potion will no longer keep you safe.
- If you are really into it and get full vampirism for a second time, you will be able to feed on vampires as well, or at least feed on undead bottled blood. Unfortunately the game might still forbid you to feed on sleeping vampires. Try it and see.
This mod is based on the classic Vampirism system of Oblivion, and is therefore incompatible with other vampirism-changing mods.
OBSE is required.
Vile Lair DLC is required, but you should not need to purchase any upgrades.
Further details of the changes:
- Human Blood potion is renamed into Living Blood and can now feed a vampire (elven, argonian and khajiit blood is fine too, not just human). It also restores health.
- Undead Blood is added.
- Purgeblood Salts is modified to give you Recessive Vampirism if ingested.
- Bottled blood is sold at Borba's in Cheydinhal and at Falanu's in Skingrad (the alchemist), but it can also be found in vampire chests as random loot.
- A new chest is added to the prisoner cave in Deepscorn Hollow - it contains Living and Undead blood and it respawns. It is to the right as you enter the cave, by the skeleton.
- Another new chest of the same kind is added to Vicente Valteri's quarters at the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary
- Version 1.2: One unused test potion modified to act the same as Undead Blood. It is not used by this mod any further. I use it in Elsweyr Mysteries to avoid a dependency on this mod and yet to allow vendors sell Undead Blood. It doesn't have the same properties though.
Load order
Load near the bottom in order to cover any possible incompatibilities with other mods that also modify vampirism as these will conflict. It is generally not recommended to have several vampirism mods together, but you have to see for yourself.
If you are using my Elsweyr Mysteries, make sure Recessive Vampirism is loaded after Elsweyr Mysteries, or you'll have the wrong undead blood being sold in Dune. Everything else will work fine though.
Permissions
I give permission to others to use this mod as a resource, to modify it, patch it, fix it - whatever, just mention me somewhere as this was my conceptual idea. Otherwise go play!
The idea of Recessive Vampirism was born from the story of Lena Wolf which is still ongoing here: I am Lena Wolf.
