In 2006, Oblivion was released. And boy howdy did this game change my life as a 9 year old boy. I had already played my fair share of Morrowind at the time so i was already enamored with the series at large. Later after the games release they released what is still considered to be one of the best DLCs of all time, Shivering Isles, which breathed a whole new air of life into the game, reintroducing old favorites and redesigning new ones.
Only, there was one i wasn't particularly a fan of.
The Hungers.
Now there's very little i can do about their visual appearance unfortunately, such a job is outside of my meager skillset. But even if i could change the Texture and Mesh of the Hunger i would simply make it more in line with Morrowind's Appearance. My real issue is how differently they fought against the player.
Melee Attacks are all well and good, as to be honest Morrowind's or should i say Boethiah's Hungers were happy to spam useless spells until the heat death of the universe, but at least some of their repertoire had some oomph, like Paralysis for example.
So what does Sheogorath's Hungers bring to the table?
Absorb Fatigue? a relatively weak one at that? One that often whiffs? even as their enemy stands perfectly still?
No no, this won't do.
This mod changes these things.
Base Oblivion and Shivering Isles are all that's required for now
Oblivion's Hungers are divided into 5 variants: Starved, Normal, Gluttonous, Ravenous and Voracious in order of weakest to strongest.
The very first thing that's changed about these adorable critters is their spell attack. No longer are they limited to simply absorbing fatigue.
Their main spell, named "Damage Fatigue" for some reason, has been renamed to "Hunger's Wrath" and has the following changed properties.
Level 1 Vanilla:
* Absorb Fatigue: 5 points on touch for 5 seconds
Level 1 Modded:
* Absorb Fatigue: 12 points on touch for 3 seconds (AOE of 3ft)
* Absorb Health: 3 points on touch for 3 seconds (AOE of 3ft)
* Paralyze: on touch for 3 seconds (AOE of 3ft)
Level 2 Vanilla:
* Absorb Fatigue: 8 points on touch for 5 seconds
Level 2 Modded:
* Absorb Fatigue: 15 points on touch for 3 seconds (AOE of 3ft)
* Absorb Health: 6 points on touch for 3 seconds (AOE of 3ft)
* Paralyze: on touch for 3 seconds (AOE of 3ft)
Level 3 Vanilla:
* Absorb Fatigue: 10 points on touch for 5 seconds
Level 3 Modded:
* Absorb Fatigue: 15 points on touch for 5 seconds (AOE of 3ft)
* Absorb Health: 9 points on touch for 5 seconds (AOE of 3ft)
* Paralyze: on touch for 5 seconds (AOE of 3ft)
Level 4 Vanilla:
* Absorb Fatigue: 12 points on touch for 5 seconds
Level 4 Modded:
* Absorb Fatigue: 20 points on touch for 5 seconds (AOE of 3ft)
* Absorb Health: 12 points on touch for 5 seconds (AOE of 3ft)
* Paralyze: on touch for 5 seconds (AOE of 3ft)
Level 5 Vanilla:
* Absorb Fatigue: 14 points for on touch 5 seconds
Level 5 Modded:
* Absorb Fatigue: 25 points on touch for 3 seconds (AOE of 3ft)
* Absorb Health: 15 points on touch for 3 seconds (AOE of 3ft)
* Paralyze: on touch for 5 seconds (AOE of 3ft)
In Addition to these new effects, Hungers have now been granted access to a new spell, called Hunger's Malice.
Level 1:
* Damage Health: 15 Points on Touch
* Disintegrate Armor: 30 points on Touch
* Disintegrate Weapon: 30 points on Touch
Level 2:
* Damage Health: 25 Points on Touch
* Disintegrate Armor: 50 points on Touch
* Disintegrate Weapon: 50 points on Touch
Level 3:
* Damage Health: 35 Points on Touch
* Disintegrate Armor: 75 points on Touch
* Disintegrate Weapon: 75 points on Touch
Level 4:
* Damage Health: 50 Points on Touch
* Disintegrate Armor: 100 points on Touch
* Disintegrate Weapon: 100 points on Touch
Level 5:
* Damage Health: 75 Points on Touch
* Disintegrate Armor: 125 points on Touch
* Disintegrate Weapon: 125 points on Touch
And that's not all.
Hungers, for all their lackluster damage dealing capabilities were rather tanky for such small frail creatures, having more Health at their peak than either of the larger Daedric "Cousins" The Clannfear or the Daedroth. They were definitely not helping Oblivion when it came to the "Damage Sponge" Allegations it's suffered from for so long.
So, the 3 strongest Hungers, the Gluttonous, Ravenous and Voracious respectively have had their HP pools reduced significantly to account for their massive increase in DPS. I have also taken the liberty of slighting increasing their attack reach and slightly lowering their damage output overall. All of these things are subject to change however upon further playtesting, please do let me know if I've truly missed the mark regarding balance.
In addition to this, all Hungers now drop Daedra Hearts as an added bonus, and the stronger variants of Hungers have a small chance to drop soul gems of any type and size, just to incentivize the loot goblins in all of us to take on our new dreaded overlords.
And may i remind you, for those of Daedric'ly inclined, The Hungers you can potentially summon from Oblivion benefit from these changes as well, and whilst this mod certainly isn't going to change the Hungers placement of the Summons tier list for Oblivion (F tier by the way, incase you're wondering) i do hope the Wizards and Warlocks among us take advantage of such things.
Mods that add their own Hungers, such as Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul or Maskar's Oblivion Overhaul will be unaffected, i may make a patch in the future if folks are interested.
This mod only alters the Hungers stats, inventory, attack power, attack reach and spell list. No changes are made to spawn locations, so unless you have other mods that alter where Hungers spawn you'll only encounter them in the Shivering Isles.
Furthermore, This mod has been cleaned with Tes4EditAutoClean. Should hopefully have no issues, and any that arise will be fixed post-haste.
The Zip file contains only an ESP file, a data folder and the readme. Should be an easy drag and drop with your favorite mod manager.
