About this mod

Delay the beginning of the Dark Brotherhood quest line so that you require more murders. Options for 3, 5, 7, and 10.

Want to kill more than one "innocent" (looking at you Mr. Grey Prince and/or Umbra) without inviting good old Lucien to your front door?

Then this is the mod for you!

Now you can kill 3, 5, 7, or 10 innocent NPCs before you get the message.

Also for added lore-friendliness the message box dialogue has been slightly altered so that the murder references are plural (i.e. "You have murdered many innocents in cold blood...." instead of "You have murdered an innocent [...]" AND "Your killings have been observed by forces unknown..." instead of "Your killing has [...]").

Who is deemed as "innocent"?
  • People that are not combatants as far as the game engine is concerned. Some people may be unfairly marked.

What this does not change:

  • This does not modify ANY dialogue with Lucien upon your first meeting.

Known issues:

  • You will see "[NL]" at the beginning of the 2 messages I altered, after you've killed the required amount of people:
"[NL]You have murdered many innocents in cold blood..."
       "[NL]Your killings have been observed by forces unknown...."

This is a problem with how the messages are generated in the base game. The script is basically putting out a pre-filled message from another script in the Unreal Engine. This is not something I can easily fix as I can not get to the script's message in the location the Unreal Engine is calling it from.

Solution (requires OBSE64 (Steam) or Ultimate ASI Loader (Gamepass)):


You will have to follow the instructions on this mod (NL-Tag Remover).

Alternate Solution:


If you do not mind the message appearing singular (not plural as written above) then I've provided alternate files that will NOT show the "[NL]" tag but the messages will make it seem like you've only killed 1 person. This is for those who do not want to use OBSE but also do not want to see "[NL]" tags.


Will this mod work if I already started the Dark Brotherhood questline or already killed someone?
  • No, the script that's responsible for starting that questline is the same one that's modified in this mod. If you have seen the message "Your killing has been observed by forces unknown" then you have already begun the quest (even if you haven't slept in a bed and met Lucien) and thus you can not do anything about it unless you want to try resetting the quest and modify your murderer status with console commands. People have tried to use the console before in old-oblivion and as far as I know I don't think anyone was able to make it work without damaging their game.

Will this mod work if I completed the Dark Brotherhood questline?


    


Surely killing all those people netted you some gold and skills. Well what better way to spend that gold with the Discounted Training mod! Also how about you increase your training limits with the Training Limits - Altered mod?


Install:

1) Place the esp in: Oblivion Remastered\OblivionRemastered\Content\Dev\ObvData\Data
2) Update Plugins.txt with the name of the esp (located in the same folder you placed the esp in)


Upcoming (being tested):

  • Additional lore-friendly messages as you kill an innocent NPC with an additional lore-friendly warning that another murder will begin the Dark Brotherhood questline. If I manage to get this script working then the "NL" tag issue will likely be a problem.
