Rex is a beta dog follower who will follow the player everywhere, level with the player (matches player level), assist in combat and is immortal. Need to add more features but the major bugs are squashed (please do a bug report with your mod list in-case any happen)

Rex is a beta dog follower who will follow the player everywhere (for eternity because never being able to stop him amuses me), level with the player (always matches player level), assist in combat and is immortal.

He drops in at the imperial city waterfront but the script has him immediately moving in your direction when game loads. If he gets stuck or is too far away at game start he will teleport to you instead.

I have the script set to run every 90 seconds that checks this list:

  • make sure he is following you within a certain distance (so he teleports to you if he lags too far back or gets stuck) 
  • is in the same cell you are (my make shift follow through loading screen method) 

If you all think 90 seconds is too long let me know in the chat. I primarily play on my Steam Deck so that whats I'm optimizing it for.

The below list involves further scripting/construction kit stuff I haven't figure out and probably won't figure out for a while. I will continue doing bug fixing as they pop up so this mod is not abandoned just not getting further improvements for the foreseeable future.

THE CURRENT SITUATION:

  • Sneak and he will blow your cover if you try. What he lacks in subtlety he makes up for with enthusiasm.
  • Doesn't take commands like staying. He isn't the most trainable.
  • He it takes him abit to catch up if your adventure has already started. (if you install him on a preexisting save it can take up to 24 in game hrs for him to start following you vs him instantly following you on a brand new save, he will keep following you after he finds you)


FUTURE UPDATES:

  • Make Rex stealthy COMPLETE- he doesn't sneak but is now stealthy with weightless feet and sneak maxed out adjusted aggression so he wont attack unless he or you are attacked first. Also doesn't trigger traps
  • Use the IFriendHitAllowed setting to have Rex ignore all the friendly fire (right now defaults to 3 hits before aggro) COMPLETE-default is now 999 hits before he gets mad at you (place at Rex bottom of load order because other mods can still override this setting)
  • Let you access Rex inventory so he carries your stuff (UPDATE still a work in progress)


KNOWN BUGS:
  •  You might have more than one Rex find you. Disable the extras with console command if you dont want a pack. FIXED (maybe)
  • He will follow through loading screens but not straight fast travel, he catches up when you move to a different cell after fast traveling FIXED
  •  To have him ignore friendly hits, target him in the console using your ~ key and input the command without quotes "setignorefriendlyhits 1" FIXED
