What it does:

With the release of the game's 1.1.0 update, new content and changes were introduced, such as a new super boss, causing compatibility issues with the New Dawn mod. A noticeable symptom is the 'Error' message that appears on the title screen when using New Dawn, which is replaced with the correct '???' after removing the mod.

This patch updates the New Dawn files to be compatible with the 1.1.0 version while preserving all the original modifications made by the mod.

How to use:

  • Download the original mod: Get New Dawn 1.2.1 mod.
  • Download the patch: Download this patch file.
  • Get an xdelta patcher: Download an xdelta patcher like this one or this one.
  • Apply the patch: Use the xdelta patcher to apply this patch to the downloaded New Dawn 1.2.1 mod.
  • The reduced file size to around 2.72MB after patching is expected due to compression. Make sure you're using the correct 1.2.1 version of New Dawn. Rename the patched file as 'NewDawn_for_110_240915_1.2.1_p.pak' and replace the original file in the `C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Octopath_Traveler2\Octopath_Traveler2\Content\Paks` folder. To confirm the mod is working, check if ability descriptions have been updated and try casting elemental magic (fire, ice, lightning, wind, light, dark) to see if you get multi-hit effects. If so, the mod has been applied successfully.

Additional changes:

Besides compatibility, this patch includes these modifications:

  • Multi-hit animations: Elemental multi-hit spells now have corresponding multi-hit animations. Previously, multi-hit spells would only display a single attack animation, making it difficult to calculate the total damage due to overlapping damage numbers. With this change, each hit is now displayed separately, allowing for a clearer view of the damage dealt.
  • Skill properties: New Dawn modified the effects of certain skills, such as changing 'Rite of the Sun' to 'Ruination'. 'Rite of Sun' was originally a healing spell, while 'Ruination' is a non-elemental attack spell. These skills have properties stored in the game's data, which are used by boss sealing abilities to prevent players from using specific skills. For example, if a character is inflicted with the "can't heal" debuff, skills that are not classified as healing spells should not be affected. However, 'Ruination' still inherited the properties of 'Rite of Sun' and was incorrectly sealed. The original author, LostFaiths, has plans to fix this issue but hasn't released a new version yet. This patch addresses this issue.
  • Traditional Chinese localization: This patch provides localized support for Traditional Chinese.
