About this mod

Sick of rigging AI for consumables only to have your party members use them all up? Love the Per-Encounter Items Mod but dislike how it unbalances the game's economy & combat, plus feels unimmersive? I've got the answer! More Interesting Consumables changes items to Per-Rest and Per-Encounter on a case-by-case basis, with rebalanced costs!

First of all, I'd really like to thank GravitonGamer for their Per Encounter Abilities and Items mod. I love that mod and I've been using it for a while, plus I still recommend the abilities side AND I heavily referenced that mod while building mine which saved me LOADS of time creating this (especially the list of items he modified, total lifesaver). However, I've always had a problem with how unbalanced it is. 5 uses per encounter is super spamable with no consequences, and consumables pile up in your inventory like candy. All in all, I love what the mod does for the game's combat gameplay (and for real-time AI rigging), but undeniably it has some balance and economy issues. To correct that issue, I've made my mod, More Interesting Consumables. What does it do you ask?

More Interesting Consumables Does The Following
  • The Purchase Value and Crafting Cost for every consumable in the game has been increased in value by an average of 5x.
  • Crafting Costs have been increased, and Crafting is now always cheaper than purchasing. To further incentivize Crafting, all Craftable Consumables have been removed from the loot pool, meaning consumables will no longer pile up in your inventory.
  • As you'll overall be crafting fewer items, the crafting ingredients required for crafting each item have been doubled.
  • To help with immersion, instead of making every item Per-Encounter, most consumables have been made Per-Encounter or Per-Rest where it makes sense (Traps and Wardstones have been left as is). Items which seem like they would be consumed through use and need to be repaired or reconstructed have been made Per-Rest. This covers Potions, Bombs, Unguents, Poisons, and Drugs. To prevent AI from burning through them too quickly, and punish spamming, they have 5 uses Per-Rest. Items which don't seem as if they'd be consumed at all but might exhaust the user have been made Per-Encounter. This includes Scrolls, Figurines, and other special items added by DLCs. All Per-Encounter Items have one use to prevent spamming. These use numbers aren't consistent though, as I will be tweaking use numbers on a per-item basis in pursuit of creating a balanced experience and incentivizing late-game use even of weaker early game items.
  • Crafting will now always create only a single copy of an item.
  • Consumables which can't be crafted, which luckily only includes Whiteleaf and Potion of Nature, have been left in the loot pool so you can still get them.

Please note that I haven't extensively tested this mod, and this is also the first mod I've ever made for any game, so it MIGHT (but I think is rather unlikely to) have bugs. Also, I think the mod likely has a few balance and economy issues I'd like to fix or make more sophisticated/clean, but this will require playtesting to do. While I'll be testing the mod myself, please feel free to submit feedback as I would like to actively update this mod as necessary.

To Install

Simply extract and drop into the Override Folder.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

You are intended to use the Rymrgand's Complete Food Challenge mod alongside More Interesting Consumables, as it makes resting less spammable. I do not consider Balance Issues with Per-Rest Potions resulting from not using that mod to be real balance issues, though I am willing to make a version of this mod which reduces potions to 3 uses Per-Rest (even if it is an inferior experience IMO). Simply make the request.

Usage

You are free to modify and reupload my mod without my permission or even credit (especially since I don't own the Steam version of the game, so I won't be posting it there myself). If you need any help, just ask! I also recommend downloading Per Encounter Abilities and Items if you need a reference.
