Was wondering if you could do a video on follower overhauls like UFO maybe compare and explain? thanks Gopher for all that you do.

That's actually a really good idea - EFF doesn't get nearly enough press and the new BETA version is looking amazing.

As a rider and owner of actual horses in RL I find Convenient horses VITAL to my immersion. My focus is obviously going to be different than yours but one thing I can't agree with is that horses are done badly in vanilla Skyrim. In fact, they are the best simulated horses I have ever seen anywhere.

The idles on them are particularly immersive. They look around at chickens etc, ears swivel, the little ho ho sound they make is actually the greeting sound a friendly horse makes when he likes you. The snorting and tail switching and pawing make me feel like there is really a horse there.

Some people don't like the way they are built and want a more light horse.I actually LOVE the sturdy and shaggy look of them. They did a wonderful job that showed some thinking about the environment of Skyrim they were putting the horses into. They are not lawn ornaments or race horses they are actual USING horses that don't look like they need a saddle blanket in the snow, get bowed tendons or otherwise break down on you.

So I am loving even the Vanilla horses in Skyrim! The only things that had me completely scratching my head and wondering what they were thinking was the ridiculous having the follower run behind with no horse thing and turning the horse into an attack dog.

The things that absolutely MAKE my game with my little horse- loving heart are little things like customizable tack and colors and with the herding add on now You can NAME your horses!I am not particularly interested in having a lot of horses but to me, naming my horse is about as essential as it gets. I only wish I could name the dogs too!

I do not use the auto looting function because to pick herbs or loot a corpse from horseback should require a trick riding perk to hang upside down from a stirrup and I can't seem to integrate that into my imagination as a real thing my character is doing (I have actually DONE this in real life but never on purpose! :-)I do love the talking from horseback thing and being able to trample your enemies is maybe a bit OP because it makes me able to fight things I wouldn't be able to handle on foot but it is soo much fun( and fun is what I am here for.)

I think you misunderstood my complaints about the vanilla horses. It is not a matter of how they look, but about the game mechanics and missing features. I actually think the horse riding experience adds a lot to the game as it makes it feel more immersive but things like the horse going missing or wildly attacking dragons just annoyed me to distraction

And despite all that they couldn't do first person view on horses which is why I can't stand using them.

Gopher, if you read these comments, I want to say I think I was probably a bit harsh in my comments on your most recent video. But I think you did the right thing, and I think it shows you're a true class act. Thanks for all you do for the Skyrim modding community.

None of the comments were too harsh. I removed the video because you and some others were probably correct. Thanks go to you and those others for helping me see that so I could correct it.

Yes, I second that. I hope I didn't come across as belligerent. A lot of new mod users are directed to your instructional videos to help ease and guide them into the realm of modding, as they provide an immensely useful public service to the modding community, which I think is why I was so concerned.

Honestly guys, you did nothing wrong and everything right. You argued the point, you were constructive, and above all you were correct Both about the warnings being way too weak and also about the probable consequences my video might have. You did the community (and me) a service, so no need to apologize.

    Gopher

Thanks for the videos - has been a driver for the mods I've installed.

The 'how to mod skyrim' series details the steps to apply mods to the game.

A mini series that showed how to create a mod would be interesting. I've tried the most basic - taking an existing template (creation kit) for a sword and bow and changing the damage ratings. Attempts to modify spells have met with mixed results. Not sure how to autoscale items for example, or associate spells with keys. Any type of graphical change is beyond me. I think there would be a lot of interest in a walkthrough of how to do a mod starting with the basics of changing stats to more advanced changes like graphics and physics, hooking into the environment (keyboard/mouse) etc.

I note there are some existing videos in this area (on youtube etc) but a mini series could do an organised tour showing the capabilities and limitations to modder's access to the engine.

For example could a bard character take input from a MIDI device and have a bard leveling through playing music (as a thought experiment)? Could someone mod Skyrim Typing of the Dead style? Some of the haptic tech being developed (gloves etc) will add a lot to immersion; spellcasting for example. Dual wield would probably destroy the house, Wii bowling style.

A lot of what made skyrim standout was the depth of things to learn in the game; although a step up in technical difficulty, I think this would be of general interest.

Oh I know.   I was just arguing for the fun of it.  Us horsey people like to talk about horses and you made the mistake of giving me an excuse.  Pay me no mind.        I agree about the horses attacking dragons thing.   In the vanilla game I saved up hard for my first horse only to have it act in such an unexpectedly unhorsey way that it got killed in the first five minutes of play!!    Back then I was so wet behind the ears that I didn't even understand I could reload a save and get do overs.      Ha ha..    I didn't mind so much having to look hours for it after it wandered off.   THAT, at least was realistic!

Convenient horses gives enough configurable options that a player can have pretty much whatever horse experience she wants from swift and brave wonder steed to push button machine to a realistic simulation of why domesticating horses was one of the smartest things humans ever did.   The only thing missing is getting bucked off or getting your foot stomped on and getting off sore and soaked stiff with horse sweat and having to clean corrals. ( But I  guess I can deal with it if they never manage to put that in the mod.  )

I wanted to take 2 seconds out of my Mod searching to thank Gopher. I stopped playing Skyrim 3 months after it came out (after my first play through) b/c the vanilla version was good, but not great. I had never modded before in my life. Thanks to his beginner guide I now have a fully beautifully modded Skyrim that I cannot get enough of.

Thanks for re-energizing my love for the game!
    Cheers,
    A new and happy modder!

Would my mod Rez Sorting Mod be worthy of a showcase or are there certain criteria?

If not, I would be happy to hear any tips on how to make it more noticeable. I don't particularly care for endorsements (they are a nice bonus ofc), I just would like more people to actually know about it so they could at least try it out.

Gopher, you should try out Horse commands by kuertee - does the job equally well and is simpler, methinks... Anyhow, thanks for the great video series!
