I'm in favor of this, when or if ever possible. Lowering the AI agro range would be great as well as reducing enemy spawn - especially removing many of the jump-scare mannequins. Scares like that were rare in the OG. In Remake, the get really annoying later on.
Naturally, this would make the game easier, but a good balance would be to remove more items too or even making the enemies hit harder, that way the player doesn't end up swimming in items as easily.
The game is better off without all those scripted enemies that appear when you pick up certain objects, revive over a period of time or are just borderline ridiculous like those spider mannequins in Toluca Prison. The Pacing of the game would be so much better with at least a hundred enemies gone!
I wonder if someone is in the works on making a trainer for this game, would let us manually control the spawns, but a mod to impliment sparcer enemy spawns on it's own would still be more than welcome.
Yeah, this remake isn't as perfect as it originally seemed. A lot of small (and bigger) things you notice the more you play leave a bad taste. The enemies are probably the biggest issue in my opinion (along with the censorship). In the original, the enemy encounters were rather sparce, which both made the combat sections feel more special and made the lack of enemy variety less noticeable. But in the remake, when there are the same 3 (three) enemies in every room (sometimes respawning infinitely), then yeah, you start to notice. I killed around 500 enemies my first playthrough. That is insane for Silent Hill 2. It also made many parts of the game feel way more drawn out to the point they outstay their welcome, unlike the original where I think each section is the prefect length.
The consequences for choosing an over the shoulder camera. When you can see too many things in your surroundings, the difficulty has to compensate the agressivity and the number of ennemies. Kind of balance in the experience.
More interesting : Personnaly, with my experience (I play the original since its release) I found the difficulty of the original too easy (you can litterally pass every ennemy except nurses), and too hard for this remake. (when i say too hard, it's not like 'impossible' but not as easy as the licence got us used to)
I played the original on the easiest setting, I only interacted with enemies when necessary. For me the combat becomes repetitive/frustrating after a while of lots of the same three enemies coming at me so that’s why I asked if someone could make this mod. It’s just the way I’d *personally* prefer to play.
The game also takes longer to finish than the original because of the bigger amount of enemies which I dislike
