The extension now automatically renames "patch0" files for graphics mods!
Note that sound mods must be renamed manually at this time for technical reasons. If you have sound mods installed, please Reinstall them in Vortex so they are removed from the load order and mod merger.
IMPORTANT: This extension uses a mod merger function. This will create a disabled mod in your mod list. Please do not enable or uninstall that mod as it is required for renaming "patch0" files automatically based on the load order.
The reason sound mods are excluded from the load order and mod merger is that the renaming must be sequential from 0 up with no gaps in between. Because there are multiple base files being patched for sound mods, the existing mod merger cannot accommodate them as it would introduce gaps in the numbering. I will evaluate ways to automate those files as well in the future.
I've tried for ages to get multiple mods to work but im finding it unclear what i actually have to rename. Im trying to use 4 sound mods but only 2 are working. i've renamed a bunch of files to match their load order but thats still not changing anything. A guide or short step by step video would be useful
Sound mods have to be renamed in the staging folder manually because I can only add one load order to the extension (limitation of Vortex). You simply increment the 0 in the file extension to 1, then 2, etc. It has to be sequential for eaxh file name with no gaps.
You should not have any sound mods in the Load Order tab. If you do, Reinstall your mod list to remove them from the load order so they can be renamed manually.
Hey there! I was stupid and purging a prior mod list and did in fact delete the important mod there are a million things saying not to delete. I tried reinstalling the extension, but it did not add it back. What should I do?
All you have to do is re-deploy your mods, and the merged mod will be recreated. The only thing is you won't see it in your mod list, but that is fine since you don't need to touch it anyway.
You can confirm this by looking at the mod staging folder and you should see the "_merged" folder there, as well as the renamed files in your data folder.
Hi, sorry for asking a stupid question, but where do I install THIS mod to? HD2 makes you set a folder manually, and I think I have it set to install to Data, but I'm not 100% sure if that's where I need to send this mod, or if it matters. I'm new to modding games, and I don't always understand Vortex or Nexus
Just add the game in the Vortex Games tab. It will download and install the extension for you. It will then automatically locate the installation folder.
I got three mods I want to download, but the automatic renamer didnt do anything. In one mod, when I renamed it manually (I have 6 patch files, gpu and stream files in the merger folder) to ''Patch7'' on the patch, gpu, and stream file, the mod works and shows. However, when I renamed the second mod to patch 8 and the third to patch 9. Inside the merger folders I am getting ''(file name).patch_8patch_6undefined'' same as ''(file name).patch_9patch_6undefined''
i had to rename a file because there is a mod which was, for some reason, named to "patch_119" by the creator and your extension never detected the mod and even if it deployed, it never showed
How do I install this? Every time i install this and click on Helldivers 2 it just says "You have to download Helldivers 2 Vortex Extension". And when i click download it just says "Failure to install"
Are you on the latest version of Vortex? 1.13.7. That error usually means Vortex is not able to connect to the Nexus Mods site to download the archive. Is there more detail in the error message? It should provide more context on exactly what failed.
Do you know how we can use mods that require HD2ModManager? Author of that mod has stated that they don't know when they'll get to work on it again, and I would think that this extension should have supplanted it anyway, but some mods still require that one. Will those mods work anyway with this extension, or would we have to skip using Vortex in favour of that one instead?
Ask the mod authors to make Vortex compatible files. They should work as long as there are not multiple variants of the mod crammed into the same archive.
ok so when i click onto helldivers 2 (manage) it just says failed to instal extention and nothing happens. i click on the notification and it sends me to nexus the helldivers 2 extention (im probably missing something or havent read something yes im probably being stupid)
I think I'm misunderstanding how to install this; but I can't seem to find Helldivers 2 anywhere on the game search tab in vortex and when I install this extension, nothing happens either. What am I doing wrong?
Not sure what's going on, but all of my mods stopped working EXCEPT for whichever mod is at the very top of the load order (patch_0). Which is why I know that each mod works just fine individually and that then leads me here, as the problems started around the same time I switched from renaming them manually to using this extension to do that (They have all worked together before as well).
Reinstall of mods and game does nothing.
Any ideas why vortex would ignore all mods after the first?
Vortex does not ignore mods after the first one. Open the staging folder for the merged mod in the mod list and send a screenshot of what's there. You should see the mods renamed sequentially.
So far as I can see, the renaming is working as intended. And yes, they are ALL audio mods and some do modify the same original file, but they have all worked together before, so I wouldn't know why that would be an issue now suddenly.
OK, so apparently the issue is that there are "gaps" in the numbering for the files. They need to go sequentially from 0 to the highest number, with no missing numbers in between. In your case, you have 0, 1, and 2 on different base file names. This is the reason that only 0 is loading.
I will update the extension so that the current mod merger only applies to those patch0 files for visual mods (textures, meshes, etc.). I am not sure if I can then register additional load order pages for each separate file used for audio files. So you might have to go back to manually renaming those files until I can figure out a way to either add additional load order pages for each file or use some other method to sequentially rename those files in an arbitrary way.
I am not sure I'm able to follow. Is the problem that the numbers don't go from 0-7 in order from top to bottom inside the merged folder (that would be weird because the load-order does facilitate exactly that sequence, surely the alphabetical sorting here doesn't matter)? Or is the problem that some of the mods come with two files each, which need to have different numbers (0-13) (that wasn't the case when I numbered manually, but that could also have been just dumb luck then).
There are 5 different base file names in the sequence. Those file names are just random letters and numbers. Those are the base game data files that are being patched. Each one needs to have an independent sequence from 0 up with no gaps
Ok, I pushed an update to the extension that excludes sound mods from the load order and auto-renaming. You will get it in Vortex tomorrow morning (need to restart Vortex to get it). I will try to find a way to rename those files automatically as well. It will be challenging since I don't know if I can register multiple load orders. Basically, I would need to make a load order for each individual base file to serialize the file names from 0 up with no gaps.
You will just have to do manual file renames on sound mods for now. Please Reinstall all those sound mods so that their mod type is updated and removed from the merger. You can then rename the files manually in the mod staging folder by right clicking on the mods in the mod list and selecting "Open in File Manager". You will get mod conflict notifications from Vortex indicating if you need to do a rename.
sorry i wasnt trying to insult you, i was just saying i was the one who made a mistake. so i was having some problems trying to get this one railgun mod to work but nothing i did worked so i just started messing around with everything and i enabled the helldivers patch extension (i ignored the part that said to not enabled it) and after doing so, every mod i previously had just doesnt appear in the game, its all invisible. ive tried reinstalling the mods but nothing changes, tried restarting vortex, reinstalled the game, etc. but nothing seems to work
edit: forgot to specify this is with model swap mods, i havent really tested audio mods but i dont really care too much about those
I see what you are saying. All you have to do is disable the merged mod again in the modlist. Then, purge mods. Next, redeploy and the extension will rebuild the merged mod based on your load order. The way it works is that the patch0 (like model swaps) mods are not actually deployed individually, but merged into that disabled mod and then copied into the game data folder.
The game's base data files should not be affected because the mods do not directly change those files (unless perhaps you have a mod that replaced them entirely).
And my apologies, I misunderstood what you meant initally.

Are you running the latest version of Vortex 1.13.7 ?

What do I do?
Change the file name in the mod's staging folder to "patch_0", not in the merged mod's folder.
I put big warning text and a notification instructing DO NOT TOUCH the merged mod. I guess some just cannot be dissuaded.
Thanks.
Make sure you are using the latest version of Vortex (1.13.7).

I didn't know having multiple patch files wasn't the norm.
Best of luck with your continued programming endeavors!
