I'm still working on this mod, but it will be part of a series of historical Roman weapons and shields that will be awarded to the player as he/she ranks up during the Imperial Legion quests. Something like this gladius would be suitable for a soldier somewhere around the rank of Centurion.

This mesh still needs a lot of detail work -- I need to add metal engraving/embossing and wood relief carvings, as well as some shading and misc. detailing, but I wanted to show the progression and see if anyone had thoughts, comments, or suggestions.

    I've learned the hard way not to give specifics about dates Needless to say, the mesh and textures are almost done. I'm making the finishing touches as we speak. Since it's going to be part of a bigger mod, release will be a ways off in the future. That's all I can say, unfortunately.

    Shoot me a PM and I can send you a beta with just the sword.

    I love the look of this! Even at the current level of detail, I think it looks fantastic. It can only get better as you add those embossing and relief details. Any chance you'd release it as a beta, pretty please?

    I also love all things Roman... well, except for maybe all the murdering of family members and such

    Yes, the milites, or legionaries, did carry couple of javelins as well as a sword and a dagger. I believe the javelins were actually their main weapons to thin enemy lines before the engaged in close combat. It would be easy to make a javelin projectile that could be picked up again, but I'd need to find an appropriate animation that looks somewhat convincing.

    Thanks for the idea! I may incorporate that into the mod.

    very nice idea! being Italian I love the Ancient Rome lore it would be cool having the armors too but i understand is a lot of work! They had also long distance weapons like spear but dunno how you would do to make them throwable! I'll keep an eye on your progress
