Dar'Nilavu, one of my main characters in Skyrim. His back story is a sad one:

Born to the famed Night Clam, he bore the white mark of the moon. This mark was a symbol that he was chosen to become leader of the Night Clans, the paleness of his fur shining within the tribe of darkness. As he grew, he found his life-mate and was preparing to become the new elder. But, as he returned from hunting one night, he found his mate with another male. Blinded by fury, he killed both of them. Shamed and branded a murderer, he was given the mark of banishment, and forced from his homelands. Bearing both the moon's mark of honor and the scar of a killer, he traveled northward in hopes that he could one day atone for his crimes.

He was not born with the name Dar'Nilavu. His real name was taken from him when he left his tribe. He sees his original name as something he no longer deserves, so he gave himself a new name when he headed for Skyrim.

Name Origin - Dar is a common surname given to Khajiits who are thieves. Nilavu is a word in the Tamil language that means Moon. :3 Neat, huh?
