Part of the changes to the Pale as part of my mod Distinct Skyrim: Landscapes Reimagined was to freeze over the lakes in the Pale. I drew the concept from the lore stories of a clan of vampires that lived beneath the ice in frozen lakes and dragged their victims through the ice using magic.

For those of you who were wondering Lake Yorgrim is 100% vampire free. ;)
