Sorry for the ramble - just giving my unasked for two cents :p
I usually link myself my additional images (and yes, it's an extra work, it takes a little more time), but that is not even needed: if you right-click on the image you can still choose to open the image at full size in a new tab or window, with no extra work for the uploader.
And btw, I had no idea they are going to fix the image share, that is a nice news.
