About this image

To see fine details, right-click the image and hit "open image as a new tab". From there, you can zoom in to get a sense of the grain. I've included shots of the clasp for reference. In this example, I'm using an Amidianborn 2k texture-replacer of the vanilla iron shield mesh, so you can get a better sense of the overall resolution.

So this is the result of "upscaling" the original texture I used (and really, really, liked) from the original release. That texture was 1k to begin with, but made sorta 2k by balancing the light/dark areas, and tiling it x4 into a sorta 2k texture, by the time of release.

Upscaling that texture again (to an X16 resolution from the original 1k texture) showed some repetitive patterns that didn't look good.

So, I went back  and did a lot of tiling, sharpening and blending until I could get that "2k"into a sort-of-4k resolution. There's still some repetition to this new x16 texture, but the dirt and grime applied on top hides it really well.  I think it turned out really fantastic, actually! (though it might need some additional tweaking).

On the right, you see two  zoomed-out examples of a mesh using the exact same color-hue. The top one is the new x16 rough texture fabric, and the lower is the version that originally shipped with the mod. The grime and dirt-patterns are different, but even so, I hope you can see the stark difference between the two.

It's a little difficult to work with these types of textures, because you want to conserve a lot of the rough, big texture of the fabric, and when you get up to x16 resolution, a lot of those get "automatically" turned into a finer-grain. One solution to that is to - once you have a very sharp and fine-grained texture - is to distort it further with a good vector-pattern that adds back the big areas of light and dark that makes a fabric look very roughly-woven.

This could definitely be something to experiment in the coming days, but as an early "contender" for the rough-spun texture, this is already quite promising. Could very well serve as a great base for introducing simple patterns on top of it.

I'm currently looking at old camel wool fabric to get a sense of the heavy, naturally-dyed coloring that those types of cloaks and "gowns" had.

I mentioned this page in my last image-submission, but it's a really interesting resource about historical "blanket scarf" clothing as worn throughout history (as far back as the iron-age). The page has lots of pictures and some of them look really fantastic, especially the dark fur cloaks that end at the calf (makes them look like a forest-mage in the style of Charles Vess, or a fantasy-esque take on Jean Giraud's work).

      They certainly do!

I'm almost never pleased with anything I've done, but I am really, genuinely happy with how this texture turned out.

I've always loved the look of the original 1k texture, and the role it has played in creating new textures for various projects, so it feels really cool to "honor it" by being able to successfully translate it into what is probably my favorite clothing mod.

A "blanket scarf" makes a lot of sense for someone who lives in the world of Skyrim, but it can also effectively "save" an outfit that you're not completely pleased with.

This is probably more of a concern with people who play female characters, and are really tired of vanilla (and mod) solutions that sexualize their body with visible cleavage.

In that case, using a "lore-friendly" blanket scarf could make a lot of vanilla clothing - or mod clothing - more viable, because sexualization of female bodies as it pertains to modding usually ends up being focused on the upper torso.

So, if you don't want to wear a vanilla armor (that's been de-sexed with "cleavage-covering" plates/fabric), this type of mod could be an excellent way to enjoy outfit-mods that don't offer a "de-sexualized" alternative.

If I were to guess, I think this blanket mod (that I am not the author of! KeungKeung made it! And he/she deserves a lot of praise for it!) is probably really popular among female players that are looking for "less-sexy-outfits".

(....though I think the female-mesh is really extreme in terms of boob-size. Perhaps that could be a mini-project for someone; to add more boob-variety to this mod, which could include an actual "A-cup" profile)
