About this image
Going over Hermit Cottage for a small refresh, and I'm trying to swap out a lot of models I initially used that were modding resource stuff, and replace them with more custom solutions now that I am more comfortable with Blender.
One of the models I wanted to change is the stove in the middle of the room. The old one was fine, but being able to see the fire at all times, and have it cast shadows through the door mesh is nicer looking. The initial model is based on the stove I made for "The Hideaway", but further worked on, so they're not exactly the same.
This one is thinner - because the space it's placed in is pretty limited - and elevated a bit on the bottom, with a bulbous form and some feet, so it looks a little lighter than the model from "the Hideaway" (which has a flat bottom).
I also made a new netting out of thin planks. The mesh netting in "The Hideaway" was a texture, which is fine (and uses a lot less data, ultimately), but I wanted an actual mesh-netting model because it looks better, and is easier for retexturing-purposes. Both the stove and mesh-netting can now use vanilla textures, for example. It's 700kb, so it's kinda hefty, but I made a new model for the ice-melting barrel that saved about that amount, so the total load for the house remains the same.
I haven't yet tried it out in-game, and I suspect that introducing a new shadow-casting light-source will be a problem, since I had flickering problems when arranging light-sources in this home. But I think it's ultimately worth introducing this model, and if I can't make it work as-is, I can always move the current shadow-casting light (that's in the kitchen-fireplace) to the new stove instead, and put a flat light-source in the kitchen instead.
