Why is my video dark - grrrrrrr

Gyllena is quite furious with YouTube. Since the end of July any videos I have uploaded are rendered darker than the original mp4! >(
 You may need to turn up the brightness a bit on this one. I didn't want to upload it to the video section and it will be the last one I do until YouTube gets itself fixed. Or maybe there is another site that will actually just upload the file without processing it. What a concept! :O

    I stopped uploading videos to YouTube some time ago, Patrick, because I always set them for 1080 HD and when they get uploaded they look as though they are at the lowest setting which basically makes them look awful.

    Shame about your video as it looks very interesting and well made.

      Ever since I changed to Windows 10, I stopped using the video editor because it will only save at 30 fps regardless of your source. I just record unedited 60 fps now and talk over the video. With Windows 7, I could save the video at 60fps and a high bit rate.

      I will tell you that once you upload a video to YouTube it can take several hours for the full resolution to be available for your video. You can make it private until it finishes processing and then make it public. This darkening just started recently. I had uploaded a Helgen video with Conan at the end of July and it was fine. Then I did a similar Helgen video with Gyllena in August and it ended up dark. I hadn't changed anything on my end so I'm sure it's something YouTube has done because my MP4 looks perfect.

      Thanks for the tip about leaving the video for a few hours and I might just try one out to see if that works, Patrick, much appreciated mate.

    Boy, she really *does* look torked. I went and watched your vid on YT and it still looked great (if a bit dark)--wonderful job on it.

    Really cool work on her expression, there !
    I could rant forever on issues on YT, so I won't even start - lol.
    It was a great video, they let you down, badly. They could do with an angry Orc knocking on their door !

    Yeah, I've had that Houdini sabre cat happen to me, too !

      Thank you very much StilwaterSaint. I enjoy playing with Racemenu for expressions. This time I had to do some sculpting as well to prevent distortion.

      I did read something that said if you record in 1440 instead of 1080 it will process the video with a better codec. I'll try that for a test and see. My native resolution is 2560 x 1080 though.

    Sorry to hear about the video issues. I sadly can't help at all. I'm having too much to follow already in regards of images alone everywhere, so I hardly watch any vids. I apologize for that too, Patrick, as I know you do a lot of them.

      No worries Rick. It took me some time to get Gyllena to look so angry and not be distorted. I love that sculpt tab in Racemenu.

    Darkness be damned! Still a great video, Patrick! I enjoyed it immensely! I loved that part around 16:02-16:10 or so: female bandit: "I can take you" *one hit later from Gyllena* - female bandit: I cannot best you!"

    Thanks for sharing these wonderfully crafted videos and telling the viewers what cool mods you use to make the game far more challenging. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, your reaction to "Houdini the Sabre Cat" at 21:36 was priceless!! I thought for a moment there your goose was cooked, but the mighty Gyllena prevailed!

      I'm really glad you enjoyed the video Bob and thank you very much. That saber cat did freak me out. It's AI seemed to get wonky there. If they knock you down it's most likely over unless you are in heavy armor and Gyllena wears light armor. Requiem takes your total weight into account for knock downs like that. They call it the mass effect.

    Bummer. I know its frustrating when you upload anything and it gets changed. I get that a lot on Flickr and FB uploading high detail PNG files that get turned into ugly JPG's filled with artifacts and banding.

      It is frustrating. I even uploaded the video to my Google Drive and it didn't darken it, but it dropped the detail down a lot. I waited for several hours to see if the resolution would go up like YouTube does, but it didn't. I've seen several complaints about this. Something changed with YouTube's processing about three weeks ago.

      I am commenting on Jonathan's post so he will come back. Is it possible that a change of ENB or the d3d9 binaries could cause this darkening. Just throught I might suggest it, don't kill me.

      I doubt it because my recording looks fine. It's after YouTube processes it that it gets a lot darker. Good suggestion though.
