About this image

"On the eve of battle, beneath the infinite heavens, is where it is best to pray to our gods. Our inner thoughts carry through the darkness, when all else is silent, and can be heard in the halls of our divine masters. Know now that our enemies do that same, but the gods will forsake them, for it is we who they favor in this bloody enterprise."

- Yngmar the Rampant, Before the Battle of Ichidag, 3E 127

Gizur, Voice of the North

Old age and countless wars may have conspired to harden his flesh and numb his spirit, but the moment he crossed over into his homeland of Skyrim for what would undoubtedly be the last time, Gizur could feel the blood within his veins begin to boil. His grip upon the reigns of his horse tightened as he drew breath from the harsh, cold air, and the prospect of one last great adventure in the wilds of the north set his mind ablaze.

With each step he took into the deepening snow, he could feel his anticipation growing. The blade upon his back beckoned to be drawn and readied, and while Skyrim's prodigal son took the high road across the mountains, his destiny called from the valleys beneath him. Trembling, his eyes fixed upon the horizon, he continued along the winding road that lead past Helgen and into the bright, frigid wasteland beyond.

The Character

Gizur, whose name is taken from the ancient King of the Geats who challenged the Huns on behalf of the Goths, is a direct manifestation of me; an old gamer who is gearing down, but who is also keen to keep his feet wet. Elder Scrolls was always the best of the best, predominantly thanks to the mod community, and although I am moving away from conventional FPS games, 1P RPGs and MMOs, Skyrim continues to deliver. This will probably be my last playthrough, at least for a while, so I have decided to do it right (by which I mean cram as many smooth mods into the game as possible and soak up every last drop of enhanced goodness they provide).

    @ midras

Thanks. The configuration is essentially just the pure ENB version of SESFX with "ambientlightingintensityday(night)" and "directlightingintensityday(night)" with increased values (1.5 I believe). This took away the extremely dark shadows and replaced them with what more closely resembles the subtle vanilla effect. I like my nights and my dungeons dark, but with too much ambient and direct lighting, you get these areas that are so dark it becomes unrealistic. IMAGINATOR is installed, but it isn't active in this mod. No additional lighting effects.

I appreciate the praise guys. I like this shot a lot too. More to come.

Nice shot. Lots of thought into the narrative also. I look forward to following his story.

Looks raytraced. Perfect shadows, specularity, lighting, and SSIL. Nice DOF as well. Did you whip this config up yourself or is it an available preset?

I like the pose and composition also.
