Anybody who has ever played Skyrim knows that wards are awful spells... They require concentration to maintain, they leech a ton of magicka, they break when an enemy farts in your general direction, and yet enemies can ward off your shouts with them. They just suck... This mod seeks to remedy that.

Introducing Fire and Forget Wards, a small mod which overhauls how wards function by giving them a duration and the "fire and forget" spell archetype. For those who are not versed in the terms used to categorize magic by the game's engine, fire and forget spells are spells, like Oakflesh, which you just cast once, and their effect plays out immediately after releasing the spell, lasting for a duration, if it has one. After casting a ward, the ward will now hover in front of you for a minute without needing to maintain concentration, thus allowing you to cast other spells with both hands whilst your ward is up. This also means that you benefit from having a flat magicka cost, rather than an amount that is drained over time.

I got this idea after making my mod, Wild Magic Surge. One effect from that mod is that a ward would be summoned in front of the player for a minute. That effect worked so well that I wanted to make a standalone mod that overhauls all wards that way.

FAQ

-Any mod requirements?
Nope!

-Any DLC requirements?
Nope!

-Is this compatible with Wards Functionalities Extended?
Yes, it is, and I actually can highly recommend using this mod alongside mine. The configuration sliders work as intended, and it can be used to adjust the magnitude and costs of of your wards to your liking.

-Okay, so Wards Functionalities Extended is recommended. Any particular load order configuration for these two mods?
I, personally, have this mod loaded after Wards Functionalities Extended in my load order. I don't really know if it matters or not, but I can guarantee it will work as intended if you load this mod before WFE.

-Is this compatible with your Wild Magic Surge mod?
Yes. That mod is compatible with everything.

-Will the "First Lesson" quest in the College of Winterhold questline still work with this mod installed?
This was a concern of mine that I made sure to personally test before releasing this mod. Yes, it will still work, but that quest is rather buggy, in general, and Tolfdir sometimes takes a few tries to recognize your ward is up. This is a bug with the game, itself, not my mod. Anybody who has played that quest can probably attest to this.

-My wards are stacking when I cast them. Is this intentional?
Yes. If you pay close attention when you cast a ward on top of itself, you will notice that your armor rating does not increase a second time. Only the spell shields, themselves, will stack. If you want to spend extra time in combat layering on extra protection from spells, then I will not stop you. Just note that you will only get the armor rating bonus from your ward once.
