About this mod

Find the Jagged Crown and become Thane of Windhelm without joining either side in the Civil War.

Requirements
Permissions and credits
Disconnects entry to Korvanjund from the Civil War quest The Jagged Crown, allowing you to get the Slow Time dragon shout and the Jagged Crown itself without ever joining the Civil War. Also allows you to become Ulfric's Thane without becoming a Stormcloak. Featuring new, fully-voiced dialogue with Ulfric, Jorleif, Galmar, General Tullius and Legate Rikke.

Disclaimer - the screenshot in the mod image is for illustrative purposes only. Jorleif won't ever actually wear the Jagged Crown. Sorry :D

Becoming Thane of Windhelm

At any time, you can approach Ulfric and say "I'm looking for work." Depending on your progress through Blood on the Ice, he will either complain to you about Viola Giordano, kicking off some umbrella objectives related to that quest, or start an updated version of The Jagged Crown, which is now his Favor Quest for becoming Thane. When you return with the crown, the quest will end, and you will be rewarded with levelled jewellery and a relationship boost with Ulfric. Once you have also completed Blood on the Ice, you can ask Ulfric "Do you have any more work?", at which point he will allow you to purchase Hjerim and you can then start the standard Thane quest to Assist the People of Eastmarch.

If you have already found the Jagged Crown as part of the Civil War, this quest will not be available and you will need to follow the usual steps to become Thane.

Finding the Jagged Crown

Korvanjund is now accessible immediately, and the Civil War soldiers have been replaced by bandits. You can progress through the dungeon as usual (minus the Civil War dialogue) and retrieve the crown from King Borgas, but you won't initially know that it is a historic artifact if you're not specifically looking for it, and it will show in your inventory as Ancient Crown. This will give you a new objective to get the crown appraised, which you can do courtesy of Whiterun's (second-)best blacksmith, Adrianne Avenicci.

You can't currently do anything interesting with the crown after that, aside from giving it over to Ulfric for his Thane quest or to Tullius for the Civil War, but I may add extra options in the future.

Starting the Civil War

If you decide after finding the Jagged Crown that you still want to join the Civil War, that works too. If you haven't yet given it over to Ulfric for his Thane quest, you can tell either Rikke or Galmar that you've already got it, and short-circuit the usual Jagged Crown quest by turning it straight over to Tullius or Ulfric. If you have already given it over to Ulfric, the Legion write it off as unfortunate but not a major issue, while the Stormcloak quest is skipped completely. In all cases, the questline will move straight on to Message to Whiterun.

If you don't want to join the Civil War, you can now clear the "Join the Stormcloak Rebellion" and "Join the Imperial Legion" objectives from your Journal by telling Ulfric or Tullius "I'm looking for work." and "That's not why I'm here." during their initial dialogue. This will fail the objective, but doesn't prevent you from joining the Civil War later.
