The Scorpion is the Zodiac sign of one of the important emperors to the Praetorian Cohors in the Ancient Roman Legion. The original shield of this kind was a hexagon and often used by the equitation (cavalry) mainly in the 1st century.

This design was created by myself for a REAL reenactor buckler shield to be used in "Living History" Reenactment Events presenting the Ancient Roman Legion.
