This guide was written during the period of AE version 1.6.353. Following further AE versions and renewed updates to OStim, several details have changed. A new more up-to-date guide is available at https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/articles/4550
This guide is accurate for anyone installing OStim 5.4 for 1.5.97 or 1.6.353. For any new versions of OStim or AE, use the above guide link.
Hello friend. You want to have sex in the tundras, yes?
Need help even after following this document? Head to the #support channel in the Discord. Sswaye has also done a walk through video of this guide at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qG6fEa9RqrA
What is OStim, OSA and OSex? Are they incompatible?
OStim is an addon framework created by a modder named Sairion. It was built upon OSA, an animation framework created by a modder named Ceo. It also generally relies on OSex, an adult animation pack for OSA by the same author.
Unfortunately, there's some history that needs told to explain some of the steps you're going to need to take here. To be short and to the point, Ceo was gone from the mod scene for many years, during which time OStim was developed to build on and add features to OSA. This was allowed by OSA's permissions and even encouraged at one point by Ceo. On his return, some drama happened. If you want the core details, watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpbCuAkt4yc
The result is that Ceo's new versions of OSA and OSex are not compatible with OStim, and he has changed the permissions and stopped distributing source code so that it cannot be made compatible. So in order to use OStim, you have to use an older version of OSA. Here's the good news: There's nothing wrong with these older versions. They aren't broken. These versions are archived on Nexus, so you cannot see them on their mod pages, but you are allowed to download them from Nexus archive links which this guide will provide. So do not download OSA or OSex from their Nexus pages or from Ceo's website, those versions are not compatible with OStim.
The new versions of OSA and OSex add an MCM for binding hotkeys and one small set of new animations. In our opinion, this is not a good trade-off for all the addons you can use with OStim, including gameplay integration, cumshots, sound effects, automatic scaling for high heels, and many others. There are also several animation packs for OSA+OStim that are not compatible with the new version.
Pirated copies of the game are usually incompatible with SKSE, which is required for OStim to work. We cannot and will not help you, please don't ask.
What is Skyrim AE or SE? Why does my Skyrim version matter?
The next big issue is Skyrim's Anniversary Edition release. Everyone, whether they bought "Anniversary Edition" or not, was upgraded to a new version of the game. This version broke plugins that rely on SKSE and other tools for modding functionality. These tools have since been updated for AE, but mods that relied on them also needed to be updated, which hasn’t happened in every case yet. This means before you begin installing, you need to make a decision:
- Stay with AE, which is Skyrim version 1.6.x. You'll be able to have sex in the tundras! But you may find some of your older mods aren't updated yet, or stumble onto something completely unrelated to fucking that doesn't work with AE.
- Downgrade back to "SE" or Skyrim version 1.5.97. Everything that was working before the upgrade will still work, but you'll have to be extra careful when downloading mods that use SKSE. If you download a mod that is for AE, it won't work on SE, and vice versa. You need to carefully read the descriptions of mods and their file downloads.
Some mods use a single download, and when installed, will ask you what version you're on. If you are on AE, pick the latest, which is 1.6.x. If you're on SE, pick 1.5.97.
I didn't buy AE, so I don't have to do anything, right? My game says Special Edition.
It doesn't matter. Everyone was upgraded to the 1.6.x game version, whether or not they bought the $20 DLC package. If you have not explicitly downgraded your Skyrim, you are on AE.
I want to downgrade to SE.
If you want to downgrade your Skyrim to SE, visit https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/57618 and download either the “Full Patcher” or the Best of Both Worlds option. I recommend the Best of Both Worlds option, as this lets you keep any AE content you have and any fixes Bethesda has made to content files, while still returning you to version 1.5.97. Download your choice MANUALLY, not with your Mod Manager, and place it in your Skyrim directory. Execute it. You're done. Congrats!
Ok, but what do I need?
This guide is going to tell you what to get for OStim and all of its addons to work for either AE or SE. First, we’ll cover the dependencies, but let’s talk about your mod manager.
This guide covers both MO2 and Vortex, but if you haven't installed either yet, my recommendation is MO2. It’s faster to resolve conflicts in MO2, which is done by simply dragging mods lower or higher in the load order priority. You can also export your modlist so that we can review it and help. See the MO2 installation guide. Vortex will work, but it's harder to help you resolve issues.
If you're still using Nexus Mod Manager, we strongly recommend you take this opportunity to switch to MO2. NMM puts files directly in your Data folder, and there is no way to manage or fix conflicts after installing. If you make a mistake while installing, the only way to fix it is to reinstall mods all over again.
Before you start, if you have a game already in progress, changing your mods can break it or lead to things not working right. Load your game right now. Maybe you last did a quick save, or an autosave. Make a hard save to act as a backup. Hell, make two! Do not change your mods without creating a backup save! You should test all mod changes in a new game first, before trying to load into an in-progress save. If it works in a new game, but not your old save, you may have to do some cleaning with Fallrim Tool's Resaver.
Dependencies
With that out of the way, let's cover the dependencies. Note that the SE versions should not change going forward, but the AE versions denoted here may be out of date. If you're on AE, get the latest version.
SKSE is the first dependency you must have. The version you use will depend on whether you are SE or AE. SKSE comes from https://skse.silverlock.org/
- If you are SE, get version 2.0.20.
- If you are AE, get version 2.1.5.
Download it to your Skyrim directory and unzip it.
We are going to start by just downloading all the files needed, without installing them. Wait till you have everything for that. I've provided links to each mod page on Nexus. Go to the Files Page and find the specified version. The version numbers are in the top right corner of each file. Click the "Mod Manager Download" button.
Address Library for SKSE Plugins: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/32444
- For SE, get version "2"
- For AE, get version "5"
ConsoleUtilSSE: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/24858
- For SE, get version 1.2.0
- For AE, get version 1.3.2
JContainers SE: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/16495
- For SE, get version 4.1.13, which lists SKSE 2.0.19 or 2.0.20 / SSE 1.5.97 in the description.
- For AE, get version 4.2.2, which lists SKSE 2.1.5 / SSE (SAE) 1.6.353 in the description.
Mfg Fix: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/11669
- For SE, get version 1.5.4
- For AE, get version 1.6.0
PapyrusUtil SE: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/13048
- For SE, get version 3.9
- For AE, get version 4.3
Racemenu: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/19080
- For SE, get version 0.4.16 from Old Files.
- For AE, get version 0.4.19.9
These dependencies do not matter for SE or AE, so just get them:
- SkyUI: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/12604
- SkyUI Flashing Savegames Fix: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/20406/
- XP32 Maximum Skeleton Special Extended: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/1988
You need FNIS:
- Fores New Idles in Skyrim SE (FNIS): https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/3038
- However: If you're familiar with or already have Nemesis, you can skip FNIS. Nemesis is fine. I will not cover Nemesis since I use FNIS, but either will work.
Those are all the CORE requirements. You must have them.
Now here are some additional dependencies that various OStim Addons require. There is no harm in installing them, even if you don't plan to get the additional addons:
- UIExtensions: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17561
- iWant Widgets: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/36457
- NL_MCM: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/49127
- Papyrus Extender: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/22854 (Make sure you get the AE or SE file as appropriate)
- Fuz Ro D-oh: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/15109 (Not required, but for unvoiced NPCs you want this. For SE, get version 1.7 from Old Files. For AE, get the latest.)
Now, you've probably heard of the "Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch". USSEP is NOT a requirement for OStim, but you're probably going to end up with it so you need to know this. If you did a "FullPatcher" downgrade to SE, the current version of USSEP is not compatible. If you stayed on AE, or used the "BestOfBothWorlds" downgrade to SE, get the latest version.
- For FullPatcher SE, download the old archived version from this link: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/266?tab=files&file_id=209150
- For BestOfBothWorlds SE or AE, download the latest version from: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/266
I strongly recommend using an Alternate Start mod. This is NOT a requirement, but it lets you start a new game without riding the wagon for hours, which is very nice while you're testing plugin changes with New games:
- Scrab's (an OStim contributor) Alternate Perspective: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/50307
- Arthmoor's Alternate Start Live Another Life: https://www.afkmods.com/index.php?/files/file/1889-alternate-start-live-another-life/
Alright. That's the basics. Where's the Sex?
OStim is not compatible with latest updates for OSA and OSex. If you installed OSA 0002 through 0012, or OSex Vanilla 0002 through 0012, or download versions from Ceo's website, your actors will just stand next to each other and other issues. This includes all OSexBoost and OSexPack uploads that Ceo has recently re-released. This is the cause for most support requests we see in Discord. Please read below carefully!!!
For OSA, you need version 2.023, sometimes labelled 2.0333-STIMMIE, which has been archived. This is very important, because the newer versions have been deliberately made incompatible with OStim. Use this download link: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17217?tab=files&file_id=54568
For OStim:
- For both SE and AE, download version 5.5 from Nexus: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/40725
Now you have the dependencies and the frameworks, but you need animations. Here is where you have a choice to make.
- If you want to use OSex, just like OSA the new versions have been deliberately made incompatible with OStim. You need version 2.02a, which is archived. Use this download link: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17209?tab=files&file_id=54347
- If you do not want to use OSex, there is a new alternative being developed. It is making rapid progress with weekly updates. You can download OpenSex Standalone here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/61167
- If you want to use OSex and OpenSex at the same time, the latter also comes in an addon version. Download OSex above, but don't download OpenSex Standalone. Download the OpenSex Addon version instead: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/58640
There are several more animation packs available, and I'll list them here. You can download and install them all. Note that Ceo's OSex plugins are the archived 2.02 versions, you must use these archive links. If you download the newest versions of these they will not work.
- For Ceo's Osex, BadBoysOfSkyrim: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17209?tab=files&file_id=54350
- For Ceo's Osex, BadGirlsOfSkyrim: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17209?tab=files&file_id=54355
- For Ceo's Osex, DualWield: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17209?tab=files&file_id=54357 (Required for threesomes)
- For Ceo's Osex, WizardSex: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17209?tab=files&file_id=54358
- Billy's Lesbian Pack for OStim: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/42502
- Billy's Lesbian Threesome Pack for OpenSex: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/65833/ (Requires OpenSex, either version)
- Billy's Threesome Pack for OStim: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/45082 (Requires DualWield)
- Billy's Group Animations for OStim (4+): https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/66524 (Requires the Billy's Threesome Pack)
- Billy's Animation Pack for OStim: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/65444
- Nibbles' Pack for OStim: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/49138
- OStim Feet Pack: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/56332
- Slappa's L'Amour Rose Pack: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/60722 (Get the OStim file)
Now, that's a lot of animation packs. Some of them overwrite each other, which means you won't be able to access those animations through normal navigation. They're still available through OStim's search feature though. However, a member of the OStim community, Kwynon, has worked tirelessly to produce a compatibility patch for most of these animation packs.
These compatibility patches are available in two flavors, one for OpenSex Standalone and one for OSex with OpenSex Addon. Each has several versions depending on which animation packs you've chosen to install.
- If you are using OpenSex Standalone without OSex, then you want the compatibility patches here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/61656/. Do not use this if you have OSex installed!
- If you are using OSex, with the OpenSex Addon version, then you want the compatibility patch available from this mod page. Go to Files and look in Miscellaneous section. You only want one patch. Each one is a different combination of animation packs.
We're almost there!
You've got all the core stuff you need now. You could start now, but I want to go over OStim Addons, which is really what makes OStim special. Open up the OStim mod page at: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/40725
A bunch of addons, patches and animation packs are denoted. Here's the quick notes for most of them, plus others:
Scene enhancement mods
- The "Unofficial OSex Bug Patch" is for OSex, and unnecessary if you decided on OpenSex or have Kwyron's compatibility patches. It fixes some missing icons and descriptions. You should grab it if using OSex without Kwyron's patches.
- Excitable subs: Some animations, the sub partner doesn't get stimulated, even though you think they should be excited about it. This fixes that!
- Lactis: You want milk to squirt from a woman when she cums? Lactis has you covered.
- OAhegao: What it says on the tin. Ahegao faces for your actors.
- OAlign: A very critical plugin that allows you to pause a scene and fix alignment issues with the actors. Press "L" to use.
- OCum: Adds actual orgasm effects to both males and females, including recharging semen over time, decals of semen on partners, female squirting. Extremely recommended and a requirement for some of the other addons. Updated versions are available from https://github.com/Aietos/OCum/releases/
- OEndurance: A new mod that ties your performance to stamina! Run out and you may need a break
- OHeels: Adjustments for NPCs wearing heels.
- OJazz: Skyrim Porn Music.
- OJazz RnB Edition: Changes the music in OJazz to romantic RnB songs. Available on the Discord: https://discord.com/channels/771971253199699988/800727084464078908/1000292891899469844
- OMasturbation: Masturbation animation pack, available on the OStim Discord in the #releases-list channel!
- OSearch: Very critical! Adds a search function for animations! Some animation packs conflict with each other, making it impossible to navigate to them. But with OSearch you can find and jump straight to an animation.
- OSmp: Automatically toggles SMP physics in scenes for the player and NPCs.
- OSound: OSound is a new suite of sounds and new sound engine that tracks movement and applies sounds to all animations dynamically.
- OSound Expansion: Replaces and adds new sounds for OSound and OCum.
- OStrap: Adds strap ons to NPCs during scenes.
- OVoice: Updated voices for animations! Please see below about Naughty Voices though before installing this, as it is discontinued.
- Naughty Voices: A vastly enhanced complete rewrite of OVoice, with far more functionality and features including female player character voicing. If you're just starting, use this, not OVoice! If you have OVoice, you need to do a clean save before switching.
- Ero Voice for OSA: A voice pack alternate to OVoice by ACE. Hosted on the Discord server, join first. Look for pinned messages in the #opensex channel.
Gameplay mods
- Fertility Mode Fixes: Not strictly an OStim plugin, but compatible! FM lets NPCs (and you) get pregnant and have children.
- OAroused: Adds a gameplay mechanic tied to horniness. If you aren't fucking, you'll get horny. A requirement for some other addons.
- OSL Aroused - Arousal Reborn: An updated Arousal Framework that works with both OStim and Sexlab.
- OBooty: Adds a spell to booty call your favorite NPCs.
- OComfort: Banging your wife or husband? Lover's Comfort will trigger.
- OCrime: Adds crime mechanics, such as fucking in public.
- OCum Spells: Adds spells to apply and clean up cum.
- ODefeat: Defeat, or be defeated by, your opponents, and the victor does as they desire.
- OEquip: Allows you to set up items to be equipped automatically in any OStim scene.
- OLycanthrope: A new mod for horny werewolves! A neat immersion mod that drives NPCs around werewolves to get horny. Be aware though, it forces some settings in OStim every time you load your save. You'll have to disable them manually. Notably: Use bed = false, toss clothes onto ground = false, force automode for masturbation = true, force automode for conseual = true, automode switch interval = 12, always undress on start = true.
- OPleaseLetMeGo: Bribe a guard with sex!
- OPrivacy: Another method of starting scenes through immersion, you can ask NPCs to go somewhere private, or they may approach YOU.
- OProstitution: .... be a prostitute :) Get customers, earn septims.
- ORomance: Skyrim Dating Sim. Instead of just starting scenes, romance your mate. ORomance expects and requires OSex 2.02a. If you have OpenSex only, it will fail to find the animations it uses for Kissing, etc. To use without OSex, install the patch below.
- ORomance OpenSex Patch: Install this after ORomance in order to have it use OpenSex instead of OSex.
- ORomance Stat Editor: Allows you to edit stats on NPCs for ORomance.
- OSTD: As the name implies.
- OTrainers: Want to pay for training with something other than ... gold? Get intimate with a trainer for some one on one time.
- OVampire: What vampire could resist feeding during sex?
- OVenom: Apply poisons to OStim partners.
- OVirginity: Adds the concept of virginity to the game. Some partners will be virgins, with an optional visual effect.
- OWintersun: Intergration with Wintersun. Deity favor tie in based on who you fuck.
- SL HH: A nonconsensual addon. Bump into the wrong sort and they may take advantage.
- Soul of a Succubus: A new gameplay mechanic allowing you to play as a literal succubus. PLEASE READ THE WHOLE PAGE. I did not cover the dependencies for this one. *AT THIS TIME* it is NOT AE compatible.
- Succubus Lair Farms: A succubus mod with integration with OStim.
- Succubus Lair Arena: Goes with the above, an Arena for your Succubus.
- Succubus Personal Assistant: Another succbus mod with integration with OStim.
- A Succubus' Tale: Allows you to play as a succubus! Includes unique succubus spells, leveling, and a succubus tattoo system.
- Yamete!: Another option for nonconsensual, like ODefeat and SL HH, but also includes NPC->NPC interactions! Discontinued, see Yamete Kudasai below.
- Yamete Kudasai: A defeat mod to rule them all, a stable and reliable mod for having your way with defeated foes, not only providing OStim integration but also options for capturing and taking their items. Has a SFW version.
Mods for NPC-on-NPC action
- ONights: We all know Olfina Gray-Mane and Jon Battle-born are secretly banging. During the night, 7pm to 12am, NPCs will hook up on their own, without your involvement.
- OBetterNights: Enhancement to ONights, allowing configuration of who, when and how much ONIghts will trigger.
- OIsThisaBadTime: A patch for ONights that adjusts it to only trigger for criminal factions. Also has some settings and a broader time period to trigger.
- OStim Eager Followers: In early beta, a new mod similar to ONights but without the night time restrictions and options for followers, player involvement and multiple groups.
- ScRappies Matchmaker: Setup NPC scenes!
Follower mods and patches
- Evangeline: A custom follower with OStim support.
- Caesia Ostim patch: A patch for Caesia.
- Immersive Wenches Patch: A patch for Immersive Wenches!
- Immersive Wenches OpenSex: Patches the above to rely on OpenSex. Use together.
- Immersive Wenches for OStim REDUX: A new reworked patch that replaced both of the above. Preferred.
- Kaidan Ostim Patch: A patch for Kaidan to have OStim scenes.
- Serana Dialogue Add-on: Massive overhaul of Serana with full voice acting and support for OStim (and Flower Girls)!
- Serana Dialogue Add-on Patch Hub: Various patches for SDA, including a necessary patch for OpenSex.
- Song of the Green: Patch for Auri to have OStim scenes.
Quest mods
- Amorous Adventures: Romance quests! OStim integrated port.
- Amorous Adventures OpenSex: Patches and fixes for AA that will use OpenSex.
- Amorous Adventures PLUS: A complete rewrite of AA for OStim and OpenSex. This is a REPLACEMENT for the above. Brand new rework.
- Caught Red Handed: Patches CRH to use OStim for Haelga's scene.
- OStim Solutions: A port of a Sexlab mod, this adds some immersion to many quest dialogues. Saved the day? The quest giver may be up for a different sort of reward.
- More Adventures for OStim: A modified version of "More Adventurers for Flower Girls" with OStim integrations.
Body randomization mods
- OBody: This is a complicated option that requires a lot of setup and knowledge of doing BodySlider work. If you have many BodySlider presets designed, this will distribute them randomly to NPCs, so that NPCs don't all have the exact same body type! Both SE and AE users should download version 1.3.1. AE users should additionally download 1.3.1-AE from THIS mod page: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/61685?tab=files. Read the next mod first though before deciding! OBody is not really supported or worked on further.
- AutoBody: AutoBody is based on OBody, and is more recently updated, with a few new fixes and features. It's only for AE, but there is an SE backport available.
- AutoBody SE: This is the patch for AutoBody on SE. You still need AutoBody! Install this after it.
- OPubes: Allows OBody to distribute pubic hair textures. Requires OBody. Not compatible with AutoBody.
Misc
- OSouls: Souls need love too.
Except for OBody, most of these do not care if you are SE or AE. So read their mod pages and grab any extra dependencies. The dependencies MAY care about SE and AE, so read their descriptions and the file descriptions carefully!
Improved Camera is recommended for a better first person experience. Also get the INI file for it from the OStim page.
- SE: https://github.com/ArranzCNL/ImprovedCameraSE/releases
- AE: https://github.com/ArranzCNL/ImprovedCameraAE/releases
Install Time
Ok, ok, ok. You've downloaded a lot of shit and want to get it installed. There will be file conflicts as you install. Some of these are critical and some don't matter. If you do not handle the critical ones involving OSA, OStim WILL NOT WORK.
Install OSA very first, so it's out of the way and high in your mod list. This is because OSA contains old versions of several dependencies. If these old versions do not get overwritten, OStim will not work.
- For MO2 users, you will not be prompted for file conflicts. MO2 resolves conflicts based on the order of mods. That is why we installed OSA first, so it's at the top and gets overwritten.
- For Vortex users, each time you install something with a conflict, you'll be asked what goes Before or After. If OSA is on the "left" and the new mod is on the "right", set OSA to "Before". If the new mod is on the "left" and OSA is on the "right", set the new mod to "After".
- Surprisingly, a lot of people still use NMM. Whenever NMM prompts you about file overwrites, choose to overwrite OSA.
Install FNIS next.
- For MO2 users, the FNIS install file is not properly zipped. You will be prompted that the content of <data> does not look valid. Click to expand the folder "FNIS Behavior SE 7.6" and you will see a "Data" folder. Right click it and select "Set as <data> directory". The bottom will now say "The content of <data> looks valid". Press Ok!
Then begin installing the rest of the various dependencies:
- Address Library
- ConsoleUtilSSE - will overwrite OSA.
- JContainers
- Mfg Fix - will overwrite OSA.
- PapyrusUtil SE - will overwrite OSA.
- Racemenu
- SkyUI
- SkyUI Flash Savegames Fix
- XP32 Maximum Skeleton Special Extended
- UIExtensions
- iWant Widgets
- NL_MCM
- Papyrus Extender
- Fuz Ro D-oh
- Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch, if you chose to get it.
- Your alternative start mod, if you chose one.
Install OStim 5.5. The FOMOD will prompted you to pick whether you are SE 1.5.97 or AE 1.6.x. Like the dependencies, it will conflict with OSA, and must overwrite it.
If you are going to use OBody or Autobody, install it next.
If you are AE:
- If you are using OBody, install the OBody 1.3.1-AE version you downloaded from this mod page. It will overwrite the OBody.dll file.
If you are SE:
- If you are using AutoBody, now install AutoBody SE and let it overwrite AutoBody's DLL file.
Install your animation packs, starting with OSex if you got it. If you got OpenSex (without OSex), any order is fine. If you got the OpenSex Addon for OSex, I recommend installing it last so it wins conflicts. Kwynon's patches should be installed very last.
Install the rest of your various Ostim Addons.
Now, everything should be installed. What remains to be done is to run FNIS, install naked bodies, and do BodySlide. This tutorial won't go into those details though. Recommendations on bodies and skins and such is complicated and based on personal preference, but I've written a very basic quick start tutorial to get your bodies naked. I also have a tutorial for FNIS and BodySlide.
Appendix
I did everything you said and it worked but then I installed the rest of my mods and it broke!
Did you install Campfire? Like OSA, Campfire contains an old version of PapyrusUtil.
- For MO2 users, find Campfire in your Mod List (left hand list), and drag it up to be above OSA. It should display a Lightning Bolt with a Red Minus symbol. Alternatively, find PapyrusUtil and drag it down to be below both OSA and Campfire. PapyrusUtil should display a Lightning Bolt with a Green Plus symbol.
- For Vortex users, find click Manage Rules and find PapyrusUtil. Click "After All" to ensure that it wins all file conflicts.
- Surprisingly, a lot of people still use NMM. I believe the only way to fix this in NMM is to reinstall PapyrusUtil. When prompted about File Conflicts, overwrite everything.
Other mods known to contain PapyrusUtil. If you have any of these, follow the same steps as above:
- Simply Knock SE
I used OStim before, maybe months ago, and I did everything you said but when I start a scene it says Ostim not ready or installation failed!
If you have previously used OStim before, you may have an old database file from an earlier version causing issues. Go to your "My Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\" and check for a folder named "JCUser". This is where OStim stores it's database, named ODatabase.json. Delete ODatabase.json if found. It's safe to delete, OStim will just recreate it.
I did everything you said but when I start a scene they just stand next to each other breathing!
Are you sure you did everything I said? :) Check your OSA and OSex versions. If they are "2.0" or "0002", you have the wrong version. You absolutely must use the correct archived versions this guide linked to above. It's not optional, the newer versions are deliberately designed not to work with OStim. Don't worry, except for the few Prone animations released in December 2021, you are not losing out on anything by using the old versions with OStim. And using the new version of OSA/OSex means you lose out on all the other animation packs designed for OStim.
Uninstall anything OSA or OSex that you got directly from Nexus or Ceo's webpage. Reinstall OSA 2.023 and OSex 2.02a.
I swear I did everything you said this time and redownloaded the right versions but now OStim is complaining about PapyrusUtil or JContainers
You'll need to fix your Modlist order in MO2, or your file conflict rules in Vortex.
- For MO2 users, ensure the mods are in this order. They don't have to be right next to each other, you can use separators and have other mods between, but they must be in the right order. OSA must be higher in the list than all the rest. Below OSA you must have PapyrusUtil, Mfg Fix, ConsoleUtilSSE, and OStim. Finally, if you're on AE, the OStim AE mod should be after OStim. OSA should show a Lightning Bolt and Red Minus symbol, indicating that it's being overwritten. PapyrusUtil, Mfg Fix, and ConsoleUtilSSE will show Lightning Bolt and Green Plus symbol, indicating that they are overwriting other mods (OSA). If you are on SE, OStim will have Green Plus Symbol. If you are on AE, OStim will have both Green Plus and Red Minus symbols, and the OStim AE file will have Green Plus.
- For Vortex users, click Manage Rules. Find OSA, and ensure that it is "Before" all conflicting mods. If any of them are After, it will break. Click "Before All" for OSA to ensure this. Find PapyrusUtil, and click "After All". If you are AE, find OStim and ensure it is "Before" the OStim AE mod.
- Surprisingly, a lot of people still use NMM. I believe the only way to fix this in NMM is to reinstall things. Reinstall PapyrusUtil, Mfg Fix, ConsoleUtilSSE, and OStim. When prompted about File Conflicts, overwrite everything. If you're AE, finish by reinstalling the OStim AE file, letting it overwrite.
OStim seems to work, the scenes start, but there's no controls and they just stand there embraced!
Do you have Immersive HUD, SkyHUD, or Survival Control Panel? Mods that hide HUD elements will often hide the OSA interface too. Press the "Show HUD" hotkey of your mod in question, or make sure it otherwise does not disable "Hud Indicators". The OSA HUD elements should then appear.
Still need help?
I'm happy to help. Join the OStim discord linked at the top of this guide and head to the #support channel. I'll need to know if you're AE or SE, MO2 or Vortex, and we'll take it from there.
