Skyrim Manifest List (SSE/AE)
An infernalryan Skyrim Modding Resource

Overview
This article serves as a reference for all available Steam manifests for Skyrim version 1.5.97 and above, additional languages, and Creation Kit files.

The primary function of the steam console and manifest lists is to perform a "downgrade" to a previous Skyrim game and/or Creation Kit version. Additionally, language manifests allow you to add additional spoken and/or subtitled language packs to the game. If you'd like changelog information for each Skyrim game version contained in this list, please refer to this site. Skyrim VR manifests are not provided as there is only a single version used by the playerbase, so downgrade is not really necessary.

GOG versions are also not listed in the Game versions section as these are not available to Steam. At the time of writing this guide, this includes GOG versions 1.6.659 and 1.6.1179.

Guide Contents:

    • Instructions on how to use the Steam console and locate downloaded files
    • Game versions and commands to download their respective files
    • Additional languages and how to download, configure, and utilize them in Mod Manager profiles
    • Creation Kit manifests and their respective download commands
    • Further reading for links to other helpful information

Please consider ENDORSING if you found this helpful!

Instructions
All Steam manifest files must be downloaded via the Steam console. Once downloaded they can be copied over to your folder(s) of choice.

Open Steam console
  • Enter the following in your browser (or Windows Run box with Win+R) to open the Steam Console: steam://nav/console
  • If opened in a browser and prompted to open the Steam Client Bootstrapper, click the 'Open Steam Client Bootstrapper' button.
  • Refer to the Game versions and Language sections below for complete commands for each of their respective manifests.
    • Run each command and wait for it to fully complete before running the next!

Spoiler:
Show
You will know it has completed when you see the text that says (example):
'Depot download complete : "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\content\app_489830\depot_489831" (1 files, manifest 2289561010626853674)'

Locate files
Once your download(s) are complete, you can copy the files into your Skyrim game folder (delete and/or overwrite all files to perform the "downgrade" process) or into a mod which is manageable by your Mod Manager (Vortex or Mod Organizer 2). By default, files are downloaded to 'C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\content\', but this is dependent on your STEAM installation folder (NOT your Skyrim download folder). Steam console output following completion of your download will tell you exactly where the files are located.

Game versions
See below for commands for all available versions of Skyrim (1.5.97 and above). If your version is not listed because this guide has not been updated since the last game update, see the Other game versions section for instructions on how to obtain this. Expand the 'Spoiler' tag below for game manifest commands.

Other game versions
If the specific version of Skyrim you want is not listed here, you can find more information on the Skyrim page at steamdb.info. The information below pertains to all FUTURE VERSIONS, so if this guide is not updated with the latest version info, you can find it manually using this same process used to create the above steps. Follow the below instructions.

  • Locate the manifest ID from each of depot IDs 489831, 489832, and 489833 for the specific version you want. Open each of these links above and select the 'Manifests' link on the left menu. The manifests are listed by date (newest first), which you can match up with the release date of the Skyrim patch you want.
  • In the Steam Console, use the command syntax 'download_depot 489830 <depot_id> <manifest_id>', just like the version specific entries above in the section above, where depot_id is 489831, 489832, or 489833, and manifext_id is the ID specific to the manifest (version) you are trying to pull. You will need a command for each of the depot IDs listed.

Additional languages
Grabbing language packs via the Steam console allows you to use profiles in either Vortex or Mod Organizer 2 to freely switch between languages. You may also wish to do this if you have modified your 'Skyrim_Default.ini' file. There are special instructions to ensure each of these steps, if applicable, are done correctly. Expand the 'Spoiler' tag below for additional language commands.

Spoiler:

If you are simply looking to change the default game language, and you have not modified your 'Skyrim_Default.ini' file, it is as simple as right-clicking the Skyrim game in your Steam games list, selecting 'Properties…', and changing the 'Language' dropdown in the 'General' tab to the language of your choice. This will automatically download the respective language pack and .ini file which instructs the game to use it, and you are done. The only requirement is that the 'appmanifest_489830.acf' file is not set to read-only (which is typically done during a "downgrade" process). You will have to first unlock this file before selecting a language in this way, and when done, you will want to re-lock it by setting it to read-only again. This process will NOT perform a full verification of file integrity (so it will not break your downgraded Skyrim install), it will simply download the language pack and .ini file. To find the 'appmanifest_489830.acf' file, this will depend on your Skyrim game folder location. For example, if Skyrim is installed in 'C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition', your manifest file will be located in 'C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\appmanifest_489830.acf'.

Language files
See below for Steam console commands for all available language packs for Skyrim. The .ini update portion for each language refers to change(s) you'll need to capture if you want to preserve any changes you've made to your 'Skyrim_Default.ini' file. See the Carry over .ini changes section for more details.

Carry over .ini changes
If you have modified settings in your 'Skyrim_Default.ini' file, you will likely want to carry those changes over rather than using the one that is provided with the manifest downloads. In such cases, you will want to perform the following.

    • Once your files have finished downloading from the Steam console, open the download folder. By default, this is  'C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\content\app_489830'.
    • From here, open the specific 'depot_xxxxx' folder that pertains to the language pack you downloaded, for example, French is 'depot_489834'.
    • Open the main Skyrim game folder as well.
    • Copy the 'Skyrim_Default.ini' file from your Skyrim game folder to this 'depot_xxxxx' folder. Overwrite when prompted.
    • Open the newly-overwritten 'Skyrim_Default.ini' file.
    • Under the [General] header, locate the line that says 'sLanguage=XXXXX' (e.g., 'sLanguage=ENGLISH').
    • Refer to the Skyrim_Default.ini updates for your chosen language, and replace this line with the one from that section.
    • Under the [Archive] header, locate the line that says 'sResourceArchiveList2='. This is a rather large entry as it contains many .bsa archive filenames. The first entry is the one that needs to be replaced (e.g., 'sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices_en0.bsa, ...').
    • Refer to the Skyrim_Default.ini updates for your chosen language, and replace ONLY THE FIRST ENTRY with the one from that section (for example, if you have chosen French, and your current language is English, replace the 'Skyrim - Voices_en0.bsa' in that line with 'Skyrim - Voices_fr0.bsa' (but leave ALL OTHER filenames in that line alone).
    • If this is the ONLY language you intend to use, feel free to copy both the 'Skyrim_Default.ini' file and 'Data' folder inside this 'depot_xxxxx' folder directly into your main Skyrim game folder.
    • If you would rather configure these as mods that you can toggle on and off within your Mod Manager, see the Mod Manager integration section below.
    • Repeat the above steps for any additional language(s) you download.

Spoiler:
Show
Note that MO2 users are required to have the Root Builder plugin installed since the 'Skyrim_Default.ini' file (which is required to instruct the game which language and language voice pack to use) is in the main Skyrim game folder, and by default, only the files in the /Data folder can be managed. I have created a guide on what Root Builder is and how to set this up here.

Mod Manager integration
Instructions are provided below for both Vortex and Mod Organizer 2. Follow only one of the two options based on your Mod Manager of choice (open their respective 'Spoiler' tag).

Option 1: Vortex
No special plugins are required for Vortex as it has the ability to install files into the main Skyrim game folder out of the box.

Spoiler:
Show
    • Once your files have finished downloading from the Steam console and/or you have completed steps to preserve any .ini file settings above, open the download folder. By default, this is  'C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\content\app_489830'.
    • From here, RENAME the specific 'depot_xxxxx' folder that pertains to the language pack you downloaded to a name you will identify this as in Vortex, for example, for French, you may wish to rename the 'depot_489834' folder to 'Language - French'.
    • Drag this folder into the 'Drop File(s)' section of Vortex, which is found at the bottom of the 'Mods' tab.
    • Double-click the mod entry you just added (e.g., 'Language - French') in the list to open its properties panel.
    • Under the 'Mod Type' dropdown, select 'Engine Injector' – This will install the mod into the main Skyrim game folder (instead of the /Data folder).
    • Close the properties box.
    • From here you can now enable/disable this mod in any of your Vortex profiles.
    • Repeat these steps for any additional language packs.

Option 2: Mod Organizer 2 with Root Builder

Spoiler:
Show
    • Once your files have finished downloading from the Steam console and/or you have completed steps to preserve any .ini file settings above, open the download folder.
    • Open this folder you have just renamed.
    • Inside this folder, create a new folder called 'root'.
    • Move the 'Skyrim_Default.ini' file into the 'root' folder.
    • From the folder dropdown icon at the top right of the mod list window within MO2 (next to the 'wrench' dropdown), select 'Open Mods folder'.
    • Drag the renamed language folder above into the mods folder we just opened.
    • When finished, select MO2 to ensure it is the active window and hit the 'F5' button on your keyboard. This will refresh the application and display our new folder at the bottom of the mod list on the left.
    • From here you can now enable/disable this mod in any of your MO2 profiles.
    • Repeat these steps for any additional language packs.
