About this image

One of my all time favorite SSE mods is Become a Bard by Pevey.  It is not a quest mod, rather more of a lifestyle enhancer.  The mod gives the player the ability to play lute, flute and drum in game.  Most followers will join in and play along when the player is performing but not all followers all the time, just most followers most of the time...
The mod also allows you to create two wearable versions of the lute, Bard's Lute and Wanderer's Lute.  The difference is that the Bard's Lute fits tighter to the body for players who do not have a bunch of other things strapped across their back.  The Wanderer's Lute fits better for those of us who have other items on our back like quivers, bows, blade/other weapons on back, backpacks and so on.  One lute and one leather strip is all that is required to make one at any forge, no skills or levels required.
As long as you have the correct instrument in your inventory, you can play that instrument.  No crafting is required.  After installing the mod either in a new play or adding it to an existing play you receive one song book based on your character's race like Songs of Elsweyr if you are Khajiit and Songs of Skyrim if you are a Nord.  You also have access to a list of basic bard tunes under play lute, play flute and play drum, the same instrumental numbers you hear in the taverns sans the singing, Songs of Skyrim is where you find the vocal selections.  Viarmo has additional song books for sale when you see him at the Bard's College.
As you perform, you earn renown as a bard for every performance which has a few effects on the player, such as increased payment for your services, better crowd response and even the opportunity to play for jarls.  The jarls don't guarantee payment, it's supposed to be an honor... they will sometimes gift you a random enchanted jewelry item... if they like you... that means not playing from Songs of Cyrodill or Songs of Summerset Isle in Windhelm and other common sense things like that.  Regardless of your renown, you always receive a free nights lodging whenever you approach the innkeeper and say "I'd like to play here" then check back after you have played to let them know you are done.  You also receive a small amount of gold for the effort which is based on your renown.  The higher your renown, the more gold you earn.  You always get to sleep for free even if you only play one song.  Hope that helps.  Adventure ever on, Phat :)
