About this image

During my research for traces of Grimwood Manor in Skyrim's history, i found these two letters in the archives of Solitude and is at
least 50 years old or probably more:

Letter number one:

"Brother,
I exceptionally send you this letter because i have great news. You remember the stories about the big old house grandpa told us when we were young? We found it. Yes, the legend is true, Grimwood Manor is real and has been standing there for fifty years without anyone noticing it.
Me and Marco were able to retrace Horace's steps to it and maybe we will finally find out what happened to that old geezer.

Want to know the crazy part? It's right next to the old abandoned cabin we used to go when we were kids. What were the odds that the place we would often go play was not far from the fabled Grimwood Manor. Gives me goosebumps thinking about it.

We haven't checked inside yet but it's obvious the place is abandoned. If the mansion is real, that means the treasure is too, the Gromwood family's fortune in gold stashed inside according to the legend. Even the carved wooden chairs could be worth it's fair share of gold if it's still in good condition.
And the best thing is that there will be no resistance and no heroic idiot stopping us since the place is deserted.

This is it, brother. The biggest gold prize free for the taking! I have sent a similar letter to everyone, i'm gathering the old crew back and we gonna rob the place clean and we'll be set for life. I even sent one to Reinhart to meet us too, we gonna need all the strong arms we can spare for this one but don't worry, there will be more than enough gold for everyone. We will all meet in the old cabin. Once we're all here, we'll go straight to Grimwood Manor.

I'll be seeing you soon, brother.
Thorvid."

Letter number two:

"Brother,
You didn't come to our meeting in the old cabin. Everyone is here. We arrived two days ago and been waiting for you and you never showed up but it doesn't matter. I know you'll arrive soon enough. As for us, we're camped in the woods right next to the mansion, i can even see it in between the dead branches from where i am sitting. Seeing it with my own eyes, it gives me chills, the kind i've never experienced before and i've seen my fair share of horrors but this place, i can't expalain it.
I'm looking at the mansion but i feel like the mansion is the one watching me.

Marco has been scouting the surroundings and looked through the windows. He couldn't see much since it's dirty but he said that the candles and the chandeliers are lit up which means that someone is inside. So it's not that abandoned after all, it seems.

We knocked on the front door, the windows and anything else to try and draw out whoever was in it but no one got out. After two days of hidden surveillance, no one got in or out of the house and there is no movement seen through the windows but the candlelights never fades off, it's strange.

Marco suggested to leave as he said that something's not right about this mansion. Sure why not leaving? It's not as if it was the fabled Grimwood Manor and its riches standing there right in front of our eyes. Reinhart said that he's got no problem in giving the good old nord wisdom to anyone inside with his big new hammer he got and i agree with him. There's 6 of us and we know how to handle ourselves so we should be good. Your help would've been very welcome but i'm sure you have a good reason for being late to the party.

We'll get in tonight at sunset and use the darkness of the night to our advantage as we always did and take the residents by surprise and finish them off. A courier will soon pass by the road next to us and i'll wait for him and give him this very letter. I left a trail that starts at the old cabin, you'll know it when you'll see it. Follow it and it will lead you to our camp in here. By the time you arrive, we'll already be inside the mansion. I'll see you inside, brother. And keep your sword in hand just in case.

Thorvid."

---

From what i gathered in the archives, Thorvid's brother was caught and beheaded here in Solitude for his crimes and the letters were found on him. He was about to leave the city when the guards caught him, probably to join Thorvid's expedition in the manor.

Thorvid's gang were one of the fiercest gang in Skyrim back then and were wanted across all holds of Skyrim. They chained successful raids one after the other, fighting bears, wolves, imperial soldiers and even undead and survived it all but one day, they vanished and no one ever heard of them.
Everyone assumed that they must have fled Skyrim. But now I know that wasn't true and the fact that their last action was to enter Grimwood Manor is alarming. Before finding these letters, i was confident in my abilites to push back any threat that might reside in it but now i am having second thoughts.
Maybe searching for the Manor might not be a good idea after all.

Nevertheless i quickly shrugged off these doubts and finally departed in my search for the manor. I used these two letters to start my search for Grimwood Manor as it is the only lead i ever had to it. I found the cabin mentioned in it and it was a real challenge as the cabin was decayed and overgrown. Then i found the lead which were rather large orange silex stones scattered in a line, forming a trail. Only a true native to the area would notice that these stones are not naturally found here so the "you'll notice when you'll see it" makes more sense now. Good thing i know a thing or two about geology since i'm not a local.

I followed the trail and found traces of the old campsite and pots, campfire, old cloth and wood beams, all covered in plants and vines. I made camp right here using these old utensils who were still in good shape. But now i noticed that there is a cold breeze in here and sometimes i can hear wolves howling in the distance.
I quickly checked the surroundings and the vegetation is strange. The place is devoid of life and not very welcoming. And looking in between the branches, i see a brownish decaying structure in the distance. From what i'm gathering here with all these signs, the structure i'm seeing right now is Grimwood Manor.

Tomorrow i'm getting in.
May the gods watch over me.

Sirius.
