About this image

While out hunting, I came across this wonderful-looking Wolf. As expected, he was angry and extremely territorial.

I speak to Kyne, in request of her Blessing, which allowed me to soothe the animal's disposition somewhat. I then placed a freshly-dressed chunk of Venison, from a recent hunt, on the ground. Close enough for him to eat, but at a distance far enough from myself, should plans backfire. It must have been some time since he ate. The meat did not last long.

Kyne, seeing my generosity and affinity for nature, bestowed yet another Blessing upon me. And one upon the Wolf itself. For a moment, it was almost as if we understood one another. The Wolf backed away just a little, then slowly moved towards me, head bowed slightly as a sign of submission. Yet he still kept eyes locked on my movements and expressions. I slowly lifted my hand, open-palm, calm, inviting. He sniffs, eyes still trained on every movement. Ysolda moves backwards and to the side a bit, with her hand poised to grab her sword. Hesitant of the young woman's motives, the Wolf glares in her direction. I tell her to stop, which she does, as her trust in me is unquestionable.

To my surprise, the Wolf licks my hand, and I chuckle as his rough tongue scrapes the tip of my fingers. He senses no harm will come, moving ever-so-slightly closer still. He pushes my hand with his nose, and rubs his head on the upturned back of my hand, inviting me to scratch him. I do so, gently on the side of his face and under the chin. Ysolda laughs and shakes her head in disbelief of what is happening.

We are now friends, it seems.

But friends have names. I look to Ysolda for suggestions. She shrugs and says it is up to me. Avo. I name him Avo. As I speak the name, there is a moment of recognition, a small tilt of the head, and I am almost certain he winked at me. I laugh at the thought, but retain some acceptance of the event. I pat my leg to beckon him, and Avo instantly moves to my side.

Kyne has truly blessed us this day.

Upon reaching Bearclaw Lodge, the other Hunters are in astonishment at the sight of such a wild beast in the company of two Hunters. Lowering their weapons, they all come to see the miracle before them. Numerous questions are asked, and replied to. Word soon spreads across the community of how the Dragonborn can now "speak to the animals" and the notion brings much merriment for all who hear it. We spend the rest of the day at the Lodge, drinking and exchanging stories, as it has been some time since we all saw one another.
