About this image
While I am waiting for another project I decided to finish my landscape textures.
The problems came when I started to work on ice. I had to resume to work on the glaciers.
I'm working on glaciers for a longer time.
The problem is that I want to get rid of the black snow in the shaded ares.
I can do this by removing the softlight flag. But it is hard to get them still looking like ice,

All the glaciers and ice mods so far look like Walt Disney crap -- no offense to people who like it, just not my cup of tea --, probably due to the impossibiliy to use proper prarallax mapping. I am using the old glacierslab mod from Oldrim in SSE, there are at least refractions though everything is inconsistent and looks halfway well only under certain lighting and viewpoint conditions. Mathy79's 3D icefloes - the original, not the one with the textures from Luxor - does a partly good job on the ice. But what am I talking, you know all this. Anyways good luck to you!, we all would apprechiate a good glaciers mod. Love your mountains, btw.
I agree with you that this will be my hardest task.
The problem is that I have to remove Softlighting (used for fake SSS) from the meshes to fix the ultra dark snow in shaded areas.
Rim and backlighting causes such issues too.
Edit:
I've found a pretty good solution via the Backlighting flag to fake some SSS.
