About this image

The 4th retexture so far in my overhaul of the dragons of Skyrim. 8K by 4K in dimension. The frost dragon is a bit of a memory hog, since it uses an extra texture for the transparency ice effect as well as a cubemap to add color to the icy surface. I'm not a big fan of the effect, as it compromises the detail of the textures.

I mean, if the screenshot you have is with the effect on it looks better than anything else I've ever seen. >.>

Basically no stretching on the wings and the scales appear defined without that look that comes from over-sharpening. I know you said you're drawing each scale by hand and that level of detail really shows.

You need to be closeup to really see the “ice” effect. Believe me, it’s pretty obvious if you’re close enough.

I agree about the effect. I always wondered if I could remove it somehow. Do you know if replacing the texture with a blank alpha will basically remove it?

That said, your textures continue to impress me. Holy damn the level of contrast and details is just perfect.

I'm not done with it quite yet, so I'll continue to experiment with the effect. If it truly made a transparent layer without all the distortions, I would be fine with it. But sadly, that's not the case.

If I make the "m" texture very dark, the ice effect is much more subtle. If it's totally black, then the effect is largely disabled, though the cubemap is still slightly visible. I'm experimenting with just how subtle I want the effect to be.
