With school done for the day, if there even IS a school,  its now time for her shift in the mine, breaking rock alongside her adult co-workers for....10-12 hours?

Clearly,  Skyrim still has a way too go in the area of child-labor laws.

    I wonder if she just got bored sitting by the tents all day and wandered into the mine to talk with her mom? Otherwise, it might do well to report this to Jarl Inigo.
