Sofie is scripted to sleep in that corner of Windhelm, so I simply placed and positioned the items around and underneath her while she was sleeping (she's a very sound sleeper). I used Jaxonz Positioner SSE Converted Cleaned with ezfree's Updated Script to do the (good) deed. She likely remains scripted to sleep in that *location* and ignore the activator on the bedroll, so she's not actually sleeping *in* the bedroll, it just happens to be underneath where she lies down.
It would be quite a bit more comforting to see her aware of her new surroundings and sitting by the fire when she's not selling flowers and not sleeping, for instance... but that would require some heavy duty work to her character that is yet beyond my pay grade.
(Another example of that lack of situational awareness: When I bought Vlindrel Hall in Markarth and took the Vilja follower there, she was scripted to comment on the wonderful view from the porch and wish that we had a place to sit to enjoy it, but when I dropped a bench there for that purpose she never commented on it even though she could and did use it when it suited her idle package.)
