Okay, spoiler... the artifact called the "Cursed Skull" is no longer just a name. Now, it's actually CURSED. You will be weakened when carrying it. Although I've also dramatically upped the VALUE, and also recategorized it as a Daedric artifact, so there is a payoff to putting up with the curse until you can get it to an appropriate merchant.
