About this mod

A lightweight Item Restriction profile to complement OWL leveled list edits and prevent the player from progressing/becoming OP too fast.

Requirements
Permissions and credits
When powerofthree released Item Equip Restrictor I already knew what I wanted to do with it. This profile will add a Dark Souls-esque restriction on items, so that if you find overpowered/late game items early on you won't be able to wield it (well you can with some caveats) until you hit it's level.

I followed Open World Loot (OWL)-s loot level distributions, which you can see below:

Spoiler:
Show
Iron: level 1
Steel: level 5-10
Dwarven: level 6-15
Elven: level 12-20
Orcish: level 19-25
Nordic: level 19-25
Glass: level 25-40
Ebony: level 30-40
Stalhrim: level 30-40
Daedric: level 65
Dragonbone: level 65

Here are my settings:
  • Anything below Steel-level is unrestricted (Iron, Leather)
  • Civil War uniforms are unrestricted (idea being, these common uniforms should be accessible to all.
  • The restriction level is an average of OWL Minimum/Maximum level, therefore you will find tiered items a few levels before you are actually able to effectively equip them! The reason behind this, is that you are getting familiar with these new types.
  • Weapon requirements are a tiny bit lower than armour, so you can start using weapons a bit earlier. (not by much, 1-3 levels at best). This does not apply to Daedric/Dragonborn and Stalhrim items.
  • Stalhrim, Daedric and Dragonborn armors are special in a sense that they have a high level requirement and a different penalty from anything else.

Penalties:

  • You are able to equip anything below Stalhrim level, however you will be instantly encumbered if you do so. It is kind of similar to Dark Souls in a way.
  • You won't be able to equip Bows if you are not hittng the required level however, since encumbrance wouldn't negatively affect sneak archers etc.
  • You will not be able to equip Stalhrim/Daedric and Dragonbone items at all until you hit their required level no matter what.

Notes:
  • None of these restrictions apply to NPCs, so you won't find naked or unarmed NPCs with my mod.
  • This profile is more of a crutch than a central "motor" behind leveling, it is designed to be highly unintrusive. In most cases you'll find yourself unrestricted, however if you happen to find overpowered/high level items early on then this profile will prevent you from becoming OP too soon.
  • Additional keywords were added to their respective equivalents, vanilla game will not make use of these (like Glass Heavy Armor or Aetherium Armor).
  • The restriction applies regardless of where you obtain the items from (craft/loot etc.). You will be restricted on crafted items even if you remove Daedric/Dragonborn items from leveled lists/loot tables.
  • I will update/modify this profile based on interest.
Requirements:
You'll need Item Equip Restrictor for my profile to take effect in your game.
Technically you don't need Open World Loot, however the profile was mad with OWL in mind, however it will work without it.

Installation:
Drag and drop into your Data folder or use your preferred mod manager.
