About this mod

The Imperious Nords History of war feature was a bit problematic for role-players since it obligated you to be racist to 3 different species for benefits. This mod replaces the selection of a non Nord race to do extra damage to with the more fitting selection of historical Nord heroes that come with a thematic benefit

Changelogs
I love the Imperious races of Skyrim mod. It is by far my favorite race overhaul since it makes the races have a high impact on your gameplay, but doesn't do so in a way that locks you into specific playstyles (except maybe Altmer). And the ability to do a quest for more racial benefits is a very nice touch. But there is one race that I would never enjoy playing with it, the nords. Because one of the nords major passive benefits is just so boring. At levels 10/20/30 you pick a non nord race to do extra damage to and have spells be extra effective against

Nords don't even have a history of fighting all other races only about half of them, this feature doesn't meaningfully improve your gameplay unless your roleplaying a character that has a grudge against a very specific race, and there are simply more interesting, inspiring, and culturally universal things to give Nords than doing extra damage to other races. That is what this mod does with

heros, stories and songs

With this mod when you level up, to 10/20/30 instead of picking a race to do more damage to you get a feature more befitting the name "History of War". You select from 1 of 9 Nord heroes from history and get a buff appropriate to them.

The Heroes are

Shalidor: Warrior's Heart is 50% more effective while bellow half magicka

Shalidor is the a Nord who is one of the most powerful mages that ever lived. I wanted to include him since the character that inspired me to make this mod is also a Mage.

His story is of being one of the single most powerful mage who ever lived, who lived for more than an era and became Skyrim's first arch mage, but yet one of extreme hubris who challenged entire dwarf kingdoms and Sheogorath himself. His ability plays off of Warrior's Heart making it more effective while low on both health and magicka.

Fjori and Holgeir: 10% extra damage to the opposite sex

Fjori and Holgeir are a tragic couple of lovers who fought and fell in love on the battlefield then died for one another building a grand tomb for the both of them.

For a story about a man and a woman fighting each other and being equally matched their perk causes you to do extra damage to the opposite sex.

Talos Stormcrown: 15% more damage while hurt and 5% less damage while at full health

Talos is probably the single most well known hero of these options. He's the most recent of them all, and the one who effects the plot of skyrim the most. He conquered all the world with the power of his blade and voice and in doing so founded the Dragonborn Empire of the third era, which he ruled not with the voice, but with a whisper as he survived having his throat slit before his coronation.

This is represented in a perk that makes you more powerful after being hurt, and less powerful before facing adversity. It's the only perk here with a direct downside, but it's a small downside for a perk that stacks multiplicatively with warrior's heart.

Olaf One-Eye: 15% damage and spell efficiency vs dragons

Olaf One-Eye is most famed for the defeat of the dragon Numinex whose skull hangs above the Jarl of Whiterun. The most well known dragon slaying Nord hero gets a benefit to dragon slaying.

At level 20 select from

Ysgramor: 25% more damage to elves with Weapons

Ysgramor is the founder of skyrim's kingdom, and the companions. He and the original 500 companions killed (almost) all the snow elves of skyrim and conquered the land in vengeance of the night of tears. For his roll in killing elves, his perk is for killing elves.

I'm not removing the bonus against other races entirely, sometimes you want to Roleplay an elf hating Stormclock. Ysgramor became one of skyrim's greatest hero for killing all the elves in Skyrim with his legendary Axe. Unlike Imperius this boon applies to all elves, including the Falmer that were Ysgramor's original enemy.

Eyldi The Bear: stagger enemies 15% more, and get staggered 15% less

Eyldi the Bear appears in guard dialogue and also a song in the interesting NPCs, she's wrestled a storm from the sky to carry Ysgramor to Skyrim. Her buff follows a wrestling theme by improving your ability to stagger enemies and resist stagger yourself.

Yngol: 10% better tempering

Yngol is a son of Ysgramor, and the original smith who made his legendary axe out of Ysgramor's ebony tears.

He is a patron hero of blacksmiths, and his perk improves blacksmithing, a trait that nords are most known for.

Ancient Tongues: Shouts are 10% more powerful

The ancient tongues of this perk are Felldir, Gormlaith, and Hakon, the heros you see in the elder scroll and who help defeat Alduin in the end of the game (spoiler)

Their perk makes your shouts more powerful (against enemies). All the better to shout down a dragon

At level 30 you select from

Hromir IceStaff: 10% magic resistance and 10% frost resistance

Hromir from Hromir's song is a powerful mage who tricked a hag into giving up the mind control of his friend by taking his friend's place and opposing the hag by wording his geas in a deceptive manner. The icestaff of his namesake is appears in Oblivion as a powerful frost staff.

His perk doubles down on the ability of nords to resist frost and fight mages,

Jurgen Windcaller: 10% shout cooldown

Jurgen Windcaller is the founder of the greybeards who meditated on how powerful voices could fail and found that it was because the voice was not used for the will of the gods. After which his voice, and the voice of the greybeards would never again fail.

His perk thus improves the ability to shout more often. By taking both the perk of Jurgen and the Ancient tongues, a nord dragonborn is uniquely qualified among all races to make a powerful shout based build by tapping into their own culture.

Ulfgar The Unending: 20 points of health

Ulfgar The Unending is a Nord who somehow lived 500 years until he met the Nerevarine and asked them to send him to Sovengard where you can find him at the end of the game.

His perk grants a bonus to health, useful for any character.

FAQ that nobody asked i'm just anticipating them:

What happens if I pick the same option twice?

If you pick the same option twice, you will forfeit the benefit. None of the effects stack with themselves. But the popup message doesn't remove previously selected options like a properly designed UI would. This is exactly how imperious worked, and I do not know how to change it, nor do I feel the need to since that's exactly how imperious worked.
In old versions, you lose the benefit. But i have sense edited the mod so that you can not.

Can I install this mid playthrough?
You can, but, if you've already reached level 10, the bonus you use to have will not do anything or be visible in your magic menu. Spells with no listed magic effect are known to cause other problems so, if you do install the mod after getting your first purge effect use the console to search for "redundant)" to find the console code (should be xx800275-xx80027c) and remove the spell associated with any purge effect you have.
But when in doubt: just don't install the mod unless your nord character is bellow level 10.

Does this work in x edition of skyrim

probably. It should, bigger concern is if it works with x version of Imperious. which it should only work with the most recent version of imperious.

I want Frogi and Holgeir but my character is LGBT or nonbinary, can it work differently?

Maybe in the future, but as of right now, it's an extraordinarily straight love story, so if your character isn't the kind of character to be inspired by that, i'd recommend a different hero anyway.

What about...

Maybe, I take suggestions universally if you talk me into it.
I have room for more heros to add. And I'll listen to complaints about balance between the choices.

Can I use this mod for...

As a modification of Enai's mod, Enai's upload rules apply to anything you do with this file.

MOST IMPORTANTLY IF YOU WANT TO SAY
I don't think the original mod was racist! You're just a snow flake!
*DON'T*
I made this mod because I found nord history interesting, and wanted to make a character based off nord history instead of based off Imperious's old history of war feature, not because I think racism shouldn't exist in Skyrim. I do not care if you like when your game has racism in it, or like playing a racist character, or how I'm a bleeding liberal for making this mod. I just really don't want to deal with these conversations. Please, do not comment anything political or culture war, This mod page is not the place for that particular subject.
This is my one, and only, reasonable rule for the comment section: Please refrain from discussions of real actual racism or your meta analysis of racism in fiction or how unacceptable it is to remove existing racism or anything that is just going to inevitably devolve into a culture war argument.

This is my first mod, I plan to make more in the future.
