About this mod
This mod comes with a script that will automatically equip/unequip head item when you draw/sheathe your weapon or spell.
- Permissions and credits
I updated the ESP with the current Creation Kit, flagged it as ESL and optimized/recompiled the script.
All credit for the mod goes to the original author, I just made it work for SE/AE!
Advantages:
This mod is completely standalone and very simple. No animation replacers, ESP edits or script heavy checks required. Load order does not matter. No MCM, minimal configuration, completely dormant (idle) if not enabled (see below).
Disadvantages:
This mod does not work for followers or NPCs, only for the player character. It also really unequips your helmet instead of hiding it, so you will lose your helmets stats until you draw your weapon. Look out for ambushes!
Installation:
Install with your preferred mod manager.
Enable:
- remove your headgear
- draw/ready a weapon or spell
- equip your preferred headgear
If you sheathe your weapon now, your headgear should be unequipped, and re-equipped whenever you draw any weapon/spell.
Disable:
- draw a weapon or spell
- remove your headgear
- sheathe your weapon or spell
You can now equip any headgear you like and it will not be automatically removed anymore, the mod is in idle state.
Known issues:
- If you equip an item in another slot that also uses the head slot (for example hooded robes), that item will be replaced when the mod equips a helmet. Solution: Put this mod into idle state when using such items.
- If you have more than one of the same headgear type in your inventory (e.g. Iron Helmet), the script will choose one at random. It can not pick the one with the highest armor rating or best enchantment for you. Solution: Only keep the best version of your preferred type in your inventory. You can however carry an unlimited amount of different type helmets (e.g. Steel Helmet).
Compatibility:
This mod should work with any modded helmets, because it looks at the item keywords. The ESP just adds a hidden quest which the script is attached to.
