About this mod

A minimal and more evocative rework of the smaller inns of Skyrim.

Permissions and credits
I got tired of walking into inns that all look the same and have the same bright lighting scheme, so I added unique features to a number of inns and reworked the lighting a bit to make them more intimate. I've added some minor touches to make each inn a little more distinctive such as beams, arches, storage shelves etc. The lighting was inspired by some of the shop lighting from Realistic Lighting Overhaul, and I took the approach of favoring directional sunlight and moonlight over chandeliers and candles (though there is still some of everything).

I did not bother to relight some of the bigger inns that have been completely reworked (Bannered Mare, Silverblood Tavern, Dead Man's Drink, etc.). The inns I updated are the "minor" inns of Skyrim:

  • Dawnstar - Windpeak Inn
  • Dragon Bridge - Four Shield Tavern
  • Ivarstead - Vilemyr Inn
  • Kynesgrove - Braidwood Inn
  • Morthal - Moorside Inn
  • Nightgate Inn
  • Old Hroldan Inn
  • Rorikstead - Frostfruit Inn
  • Winterhold - The Frozen Hearth

COMPATIBILITY

I use Cathedral Weather and a few Community Shader mods and it looks fine (see screenshots). It looks good with ENB as well. I imagine that it will conflict with mods that also alter lights like Lux and Realistic Lighting Overhaul, and it won't work with mods that extensively rebuild or "reshape" the inns in a major way, though Distinct Interiors works fine. I keep this mod at the end of my load order, and that may help with compatibility.

NOTE

This mod was completed in a single afternoon for a friend, and is simply for someone looking for a very minimal and more evocative rework of inn lighting. I won't be doing any additional work on it. It's a small mod, so you can easily ESLify it if you like.

EDIT: Actually, I might do some work on it. I had an idea to write a script to swap out white (FarmInteriorSunLight01) or yellow (FarmInteriorLight01) light based on the time of day, so that evenings would produce white moonbeams and days would produce yellow sunbeams. I'm new to Skyrim scripting, so we'll see how it goes.
