Quest kicks off with a note from the courier:
Dear Player,
Riverwood requires your aid. The old crypt behind the Sleeping Giant Inn has become infested with spiders and the guards are completely overwhelmed. Your bravery and skill are unmatched and widely known; there is no one else I trust more with this request. Please, come as soon as you can.

- Player: What brings you here?
- Old Monk: I am here at the behest of The Arch-Mage of The College of Winterhold to investigate a most troubling matter. It seems the Heart of Winter, an ancient artifact that has long shielded Skyrim from the fierce storms descending from High Hrothgar, has been stolen by a Daedric Lord and hidden deep within these ice caves. I'm ashamed to admit it but I lack the courage to delve further into these treacherous depths. Might you investigate on my behalf? I can make it worth your while.

- Player: Hello, is something the matter?
- Old Monk: Aye, last night I thought I heard the old Greybeards' voices crying out. Spoke with some of the townsfolk, and they heard it too. Hmm…Suppose it might not have been just a dream… There are some Greybeard resting grounds deep within the Riverwood catacombs. Would you mind going to check the grounds and see if anything is amiss?
