About this mod

Allows the latest Creation Kit to run without Steam. Great for using with the GOG version or you just don't want Steam open when it's clearly not needed.

Yeah, I know, this is normally used for games when playing on LAN and whatnot. But it works for just about anything that requires the Steam APIs, Creation Kit included. And this was probably already known, but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere. So I figured I'd post it.

If this is your first time doing any of this I'd recommend checking out mnikjom's The Northern Experience - Skyrim Modding Guide before proceeding.

With That Out Of The Way: (this probably doesn't need to be said here, but still)
  • Download the Skyrim Special Edition: Creation Kit from Steam -- but DO NOT RUN IT afterwards!
  • Copy all of the files from said installation into your main Skyrim folder with SkyrimSE.exe. (Yes, all of them!)
  • Download the Creation Kit Platform Extended for Skyrim and extract that entire archive into your main Skyrim folder as well.
  • Now extract the steam_api64.dll and steam_appid.txt files from this archive into your main Skyrim folder. (You can ignore the rest here.)
  • You should now have ckpe_loader.exe, CreationKit.exe, SkyrimSE.exe, steamapi64.dll and steam_appid.txt all in your main Skyrim installation folder.
  • Open your Mod Manager and set it to open the Creation Kit using ckpe_loader.exe not CreationKit.exe. (MO2 does this automagically!)
  • Now click Run. Everything should load up as normal. No Steam or weird CreationKit.exe required!

Enjoy!
