Why?
For me, the most important reason is immersion. I did not like the fact that you poison your bow, instead of you know, the thing that actually goes and hits enemy in the face. However if you don't care about that there are several other reasons:
- Less menu-ing: With this mod, you go into your menu and craft a whole bunch of poisoned arrows, then use them like you would without interruption. During combat, you don't have to pause to open your menu and re-poison the weapon after every attack. You prepare beforehand. Also, when you have your arrows equipped during gameplay you can see if they're poisoned or not. No need to open inventory for that.
- Poisoned arrow for followers: Yes, you can give them to your followers. I don't believe there was a good way to do this before. On that note, you might also want to install this other mod Follower Inventory Quick Access so you can quickly access your follower's inventory.
- Arrow recovery: if you miss your shot in vanilla game, the poison on the arrow goes to waste. This does not make sense to me. With this mod if you miss the shot, you can collect that arrow and have the poison on it still.
Open your inventory, equip your bow (important: you must have a bow/crossbow equipped) and arrows, then apply your poison to the bow as you would. What happens is this mod removes the poison effect from the bow, and instead gives you some poisoned arrows back. If you have more of the same poison / arrow available, the mod will display a dialog, allowing you to select how many you want to craft at once. You don't need to convert them one by one.
Also, your perks that affect how many weapons hits you get per poison are taken into account while crafting arrows. In Ordinator for example, the Bottomless Cup perk gives you 5 hits at Alchemy 50. If you craft poison arrows, you get 5 arrows back per bottle used. This conversion ratio can also be customized in MCM.
That's all really.
Compatibility
Hopefully, every mod should be compatible.
- Mod that modify arrow damage values or add new arrows do not require any patches.
- Alchemy mods that add new potions or change existing potion effects do not require any patches.
- Perk mods do not require any patches, this includes changes to perks that affect arrow recovery from dead bodies (you recover the same amount of arrows but the poison is gone on them) or change how many hits a poisoned weapon would get.
- Yes I'm Sure NG is compatible.
- CACO is compatible. However, I'd recommend disabling the option in MOD that renames poisons. Alchemy Plus is a better alternative anyway.
Known Issues
Soulsy HUD has a known bug with DPF mod (which this mod depends on). This will result in a crash when you craft arrows/bolts.
Recommended Mods
Alchemy Plus is highly recommended. Apart from being a huge quality-of-life addition to the game (it declogs your inventory) it also reduces save file bloat. Highly recommended.
