Why:

The original Darkend mod, while atmospheric and immersive, lacked a structured questline. As a fan of the mod and wanting to enhance the experience, I created this addon to provide quests that guide players through the haunting world of Pharos Island. If you're a hardcore player and prefer to explore on your own, feel free to skip this addon. But for those who want a more complete narrative experience, this might be exactly what you're looking for.

Note:

This addon requires the main Darkend mod (Version 1.4, released on 2018/04/25 at 8:35 AM) to work. If the original author deems this addon inappropriate, I will remove it.
Features:

• Over 1110 lines of fully voiced dialogue and enemy taunts:Encounter unique enemies with chilling, immersive voiceovers that reflect their tortured pasts, drawing you deeper into the lore of Pharos Island.
• The return of "The Flame Maiden":A once-deleted NPC has been revived, fully voiced, and now provides vital information about the island’s history and quest objectives.
• Map markers and quest logs:Navigate Pharos Island with ease using map markers and quest objectives that help you track your progress, making the story more coherent and engaging.
• Simplified key system:No more scouring the island for elusive keys—find what you need to progress without unnecessary frustration.
• Additional AI-generated Bink videos (Gorgeous Version Addon):Enhance your immersion with beautifully crafted, AI-generated Bink videos. These Easter eggs, available in the Gorgeous Version Addon, add deeper layers of story and atmosphere to maximize the gameplay experience.
• Three different endings:
  
  • True End: Complete all side quests obtainable from the Flame Maiden before finishing the main quest (defeating all 13 bosses). Visit the Flame Maiden before leaving the island to unlock the secret ending.
  • Normal End: Complete only the main quest, ignoring or failing to complete any side quests. Visit the Flame Maiden before leaving the island to unlock the normal ending.
  • Worst End: Ignore the Flame Maiden after completing the main quest and proceed through the portal. If you visit the island again, a dark discovery awaits...

Installation Guide

Step 1:Download and Install the Main Files (Base Version)

This standalone version does not require additional files to function (although the original Darkend files are still needed). It includes all essential content but does not contain any Bink files.

Step 2:Download and Merge the Gorgeous Version Addon (Optional)

For a more complete experience, including Easter egg Bink files, download the Gorgeous Version Addon. Do not replace the base version files when merging. (When using MO2, overwrite only the scripts—don’t choose “replace all.”) The Gorgeous Version contains only additional scripts and Bink files and requires the Main Files (Base Version) to function properly.



Note:

“Merge” is the default option for MO2, but you can also install the addon separately by giving it a different name. Make sure the load order is as follows:

• Main Files (Base Version)
• Gorgeous Version – Books (this should override scripts in Base Version, which is intended)
• Gorgeous Version – Bosses (this should also override scripts in Base Version, as intended)
  

Step 3:Download and Overwrite with the Japanese Version ESP (Optional)

If you prefer to play in Japanese, download the Japanese Version ESP and overwrite the existing ESP file from the Main Files (Base Version).
Q&A

• After updating to the latest version, can we remove the {blahblahblah…} patch since it's now archived?
  
  • Ans: Yes, indeed.
    
• I have a black face bug.
  
  • Ans: Please search for the “blackface fix” plugin on Nexus. It’s not caused by this mod.

• Can I let the Gorgeous Version override the base version files in Vortex, or is MERGE necessary? Alternatively, can I use the Combine function?
  
  • Ans: The scripts in the base version have the playbink function disabled (normally requiring Bink files to work). The Gorgeous Version re-enables this function, so you can use any method as long as the scripts from the Gorgeous Version are properly loaded.
    
• Should the Gorgeous Version be loaded after the Main Files? Vortex suggests the opposite.
  
  • Ans: Yes, the Gorgeous Version should be loaded after the Main Files. The scripts will not work if overridden by the base version.
    
• Is the Anniversary Edition required?
  
  • Ans: It was tested under AE version 1.6.1170, so it’s recommended but not required. Feel free to try without it.
    
• The quest won’t start or has trouble progressing.
  
  • Ans: Some alternative start mods ignore the vanilla start quest, which may cause issues. The MQ01 "Unbound" quest should have a stage greater than 200 for the script to function properly. Also, there's DBVO mods, which I never used as they mess up the conversation for their intended purpose.
    
• MO2 doesn’t ask to merge; I just set the priority. Is that fine?
  
  • Ans: If you choose a different name during installation, you won’t be prompted to merge. Just make sure the Gorgeous Version is loaded after the Main Files.
    
• Is it safe to ESLify the mod?
  
  • Ans: ESLifying crashed my save game, so it’s not recommended. You can try at your own risk.
    
• I get an error when adding the Gorgeous Version add-ons: "None of the available installer plugins were able to handle the archive."
  
  • Ans: Try using 7-zip to extract the archive. If 7-zip can extract it, the issue is with MO2. If 7-zip fails, the download may be corrupted.
    
• Which Gorgeous Version add-ons should I install if I want both Books and Bosses?
  
  • Ans: You should download both Gorgeous Version – Books and Gorgeous Version – Bosses if you want both.
