- The Lightest Weight SPID and KID Needs Mod for the Future -
This mod is 6 years in the making and with the use of Keyword Item Distribution (KID) and Spell Perk Item Distribution (SPID) I have created one of the most compatible needs mods out there today with a wide range of native support for other mods adding new food items via KID. Patching and load order no longer matter for core features to work and due to its light streamlined nature it is one of the lightest needs mods on Nexus that can be installed and *functionally uninstalled safely (See Uninstallation) at any time and delivers one thing and one thing only. Needs.
Additionally, the mod is flagged ESL and a non-SPID/KID version of the mod is offered for those users that do not use SPID and or KID.
- This mod includes only 1 active script and is by comparison to many other needs mods, considerably lighter and runs faster. It is also designed to be 100% safe to disable (functionally remove) mid game.
- Keyword Item Distribution (KID) and Spell Perk Item Distribution (SPID) support leveraged as a core feature removing the need for patching or load order micromanagement. A non-SPID/KID version is also offered as well.
- Integrated support via KID and SPID for dozens of mods that add food, including CACO, Hunterborn, etc.
- Widgets for the mod are also offered which can be selected via FOMOD if desired.
- Support for Werewolves, Cannibals, Vampires, Liches, Carnivores, Vegetarians, Insomniacs, and role playing racial support
- Needs include Hunger, Balanced Diet (You need meat & veggies occasionally), Thirst, Sleep & includes M/F sound effects.
- Optional MCM support giving the player the ability to toggle numerous features and fine tune needs.
- Water can be collected from wells in addition to springs and are included in your inventory as waterskins
- Support for Chesko's Campfire mod natively include which displays waterskins on your backpack.
- Mod includes a unique cook book with hand drawn illustrations detailing every cooking recipe in Skyrim.
- Animals that didn’t previously drop meat such as wolves or bears now drop meat via SPID.
- Strong Alcohol will get you drunk and Skooma will make you high with visuals.
- Mod includes numerous other improvements and features such as controller rumble support!
Survival Needs
Every single need supported by this mod comes with both male and female audio that will play every time the player is notified that they have a need that is not met. The player will be reminded every hour that their need is not met after becoming hungry, thirsty, etc. Time intervals can also be configured via MCM.
Hunger and Thirst
You will get hungry and thirsty every 6 hours and will be notified that you are becoming hungry and/or thirsty after 5 hours. This will result in needing to have a drink and meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
~When hungry output damage is reduced by 25% and stamina recovers 50% slower.
~When thirsty buying items will cost you 25% more and Speechcraft is reduced by 10.
Balanced Diet
After 3 and half days without consuming meat or vegetables you will be notified that you are becoming anemic and/or you are getting scurvy respectively. After 4 days without meat, you will be anemic and after 4 days without fruits or vegetables you will get scurvy.
~When anemic power attacks will cost 25% more stamina and stamina will recover 50% slower.
~When you have scurvy damage taken is increased by 25% and health regeneration is reduced by 85%.
Sleep
You will be notified that you are becoming tired after 14 hours and will be tired after 23 hours. This will result in needing to sleep at 12am if you wake up at 8am, but you will not incur a detriment until you have gone 23 hours without sleep.
~When tired skills will improve 25% slower and Magicka recovers 50% slower.
Alcohol, Skooma, Water and You
~Water can be acquired from every well in Skyrim. Wells have also been placed next to every Hearthfire Home.
~Water can also be acquired from a fresh water spring. That stated if you follow a river or brook up to the source you will find water
coming out of the ground from a spring source. This is where you can collect fresh water.
~Water is now also a requirement to make soups and stews which of course also hydrate you.
~Weak Alcohol is cheap and readily available around Skyrim and noted by the description “Weak Alcoholic Drink.” Weak Alcohol will
satisfy your thirst in addition to water.
~Strong Alcohol will get you drunk blurring your vision (see screenshots), but will make you feel like you can take on the world. It
comes with a number of pros and cons and will not satisfy your thirst.
~Skooma will make you high making the world vibrant and colorful (see screenshots) while also providing you with boundless energy.
However, after the positive effects have worn off you will be in withdraw from the drug for some time.
Supported Role Playing Experiences
Werewolves, Cannibals, and Carnivores oh my!
~Feeding on a body as a werewolf or cannibal will satisfy your hunger and your need for meat.
~As a cannibal if you feed on a body, you will also acquire human flesh and their heart as alchemy ingredients/snacks for later.
~Using the MCM the player can designate themselves as a Carnivore. Carnivores do not need fruits or vegetables in their diet. This
option is for player’s roll playing a Werewolf, Cannibal, Khajit, etc. that only consume meat.
Vampires, Liches, and Insomniacs
~Both Vampires and Liches by default do not require food or drink they only require sleep to recover energy.
~Using the MCM the player can also select “Mortal Vampire” which makes vampires still require food and water like everyone else.
This option is off by default.
~Using the MCM the player can also select Sleepless Undeath removing the need to sleep as a Vampire, Lich, or as a human if they
are roll playing an insomniac. This option is off by default.
Vegetarians
~By default, any mushroom that has its first ingredient provide a bonus to the player will also count as meat when consumed. These
mushrooms can only be found deep in caves but allows for players playing a vegetarian or vegan to avoid eating meat altogether.
Lore Friendly Racial Support
~By default, Bosmer, Argonians, and Khajiit do not incur a penalty when they consume raw meat. This can also be configured in the
MCM.
Odds and Ends that Sort of Thing
~By default, the cooking menu recipes only show up if you have at least 1 item to make the meal. This can be configured via the
MCM however and switched off.
~A cook book has been added to Skyrim with hand drawn illustrations detailing how to cook every single meal in the game as well as
the effects each meal provides (see screenshots for details).
~All meat can be charred on the fire without the need for salt to make an edible meal in a pinch complete with a new custom texture
(see screenshots for details).
~Animals that didn’t previously drop meat such as bears, wolves, and sabre cats now drop meat. Ash Hoppers can be cooked and
buttered to make various tasty meals complete with new unique textures.
~Soups and Stews require water as an ingredient in order to make them and satisfy the player’s thirst.
~Animal pelts are more expensive now rewarding the player who hunts for them.
~Inns provide food based on location. Remote inns will have less food options to offer. Inns in major holds will have a number of
meals and drinks for the player to chose from. Hearthfire food items not normally sold in inn’s will now be sold.
Widgets
~Widgets are optional same as the MCM but if widgets are selected during FOMOD installation then the player will receive a red widget icon in the bottom right corner when a need is not met. Once a need is met the widget disappears and the HUD is clean.
*Important Note: Widgets will only start appearing in game after you have saved the game at least once with the widget optional file installed and then load the save. From that point on widgets will work for the rest of your game nothing else required by the player.
The SPID/KID version of this mod has a singular SPID and KID file which eliminates the need for patches or load order changes as it relates to vanilla food items. Concerning new food items added by mods, the singular SPID and KID file were built to natively support:
- Apothecary
- Hunterborn (and supports the 6000 soups addon)
- Complete Alchemy and Cooking
- Creation Clubs Fishing
- Original SkyTEST
- Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch
- Warm Drinks SSE - Simple Tea And Coffee Recipes - for Campfire
Additionally, I also provide optional .esp patches for Cutting Room Floor and the Creation Club mod Farming which just allows the user to get water from the two wells added by CRF as well as Farming respectively, and Unique Stros M’Kai Rum which just allows the rum to make the player drunk. I also provide a synergy patch to be used with Chesko’s Campfire mod which allows your waterskins to be displayed on your backpack. As with other Needs mods you will need to disable "Survival Mode" if you have it installed.
*Please note that a non-SPID/KID dependent version of the mod is also offered and all of the above mods are supported via a .esp patch. Also, this mod works in VR without issue.
If the KID/SPID version of the mod is selected then just place the mod after any mod altering raw meat and alcohol, if you want this mods intoxication visual effects or raw meat penalties. If using the non-SPID/KID version of the mod then place the mod near the bottom of your load order before your water mods but after any mod altering food.
Hard Requirements
-Only Skyrim is required (Any Version) for the base mod
Optional Requirements
-If the USSEP version of the mod is selected then USSEP is required
-If the SPID/KID version of the mod is selected then USSEP, KID, and SPID are required
-If the MCM and/or widget optional files are installed then SkyUI is required
I have created an optional uninstallation file to allow users to functionally safely uninstall (Deactivate) this mod during an existing save. This will allow users to effectively remove this mod without risk giving them the opportunity to try a different needs mod of their choice.
To deactivate this mod simply download and install the optional uninstallation file and overwrite all when prompted. Once in game ensure all your needs are met, you are not hungry, thirst, tired etc. and then enter the following command: “stopquest EN_Quest” without quotes. Once done keep the uninstallation version of the mod installed in your game and this way the mod will go dormant without any risk of hurting your save game. It is recommended that you use this uninstallation file on the SPID/KID version over the non-SPID/KID version however, it will work on both.
