This mod provides an SSEEdit script that allows you to replace the appearance of any NPC with that of any follower/replacer mod. I will also provide instructions on how to use it. it’s very simple, even for those who have never used SSEEdit before. You can switch appearances in 1 minutes !

Unlike other methods that copy the appearance of an NPC from mod to another NPC, my script directly edits the mod itself and changes its functionality.

  • If it's a follower mod, my script turns that mod into one that replaces the appearance of the NPC you want.
  • If it's a mod that replaces the appearance of a specific NPC, my script will modify that mod to replace the appearance of another NPC you want.

Note that this script is intended for personal use and for modders who want to quickly convert their own mods. Sharing a modified version of a mod without the original author’s permission is unacceptable.

So let's get started.

Quick guide

1. Install your follower/replacer mod, download my script, place it in SSEEdit's Edit Scripts folder, then run SSEEdit.
2. Select the mod's plugin -> Non-Player Character (Actor) -> right-click on the NPC record and choose Apply Script.
3. Select "DB - Transform NPC Appearance V2", run it, and enter the BaseID of the target NPC.
4. Choose whether to use the source NPC's outfit, then click OK.
5. Exit SSEEdit and save.
6. Go to the Overwrite folder, then navigate to NPC_AssetsOutput ( if you're using MO2, with Vortex you can find it in the game directory / Data ).
7. Transfer all the files inside to the installation folder of your follower/replacer mod.
Done!

Detailed guide

First, you will need to have SSEEdit. You can find the installation instructions here.

Download "DB - Transform NPC Appearance V2" from my mod, extract it, and then place it into the "Edit Scripts" folder within your SSEEdit directory.

Next, you will need to install the follower/replacer mod you want, and then check in-game for any errors. This step is important because if any issues arise after the conversion, you'll be able to determine whether they are caused by the follower/replacer mod itself or by the conversion process.

You will need the Base ID of the NPC whose appearance you want to assign from the mod. You can find this information by searching for the NPC's name on Google and visiting the Skyrim wiki. For example, Lydia has a Base ID of 000A2C8E.

Open SSEEdit, select the plugin of your follower/replacer mod, go to "Non-Player Character (Actor)," right-click on the NPC record you want, and select "Apply Script..."

A popup will appear. In the Script section, find and select my script named "DB - Transform NPC Appearance V2," then click OK.

Then, enter the exact Base ID of the NPC you want. Next, depending on whether you want to apply the current outfit of the NPC from the mod to your NPC, enter 1 or 0, and then click OK.

After the script has finished running, you will see that the NPC record has changed. Then, close SSEEdit; it will ask if you want to save your changes. Click OK.

Finally, go to the NPC_AssetsOutput folder, which you can find in the Overwrite folder if you're using MO2, or in the game directory if you're using Vortex. Transfer all the files inside to the installation folder of your follower/replacer mod.

And you’re done!

FAQ

Are there any limitations on the types of mods that can be transformed ?
No.

The files in my follower/replacer folder are in .BSA format.
You can extract the BSA file using this tool.

After the conversion is complete, does the follower NPC still exist ?
No.

Will this modified follower mod conflict with other mods that also replace the appearance of that NPC, such as the Bijin mod ?
No, If you place the modified follower mod above other NPC replacer mods, it will use the appearance from the modified follower mod, and there will be no other conflicts.

The NPC appearance replacement worked, but when entering the designated area to place the original follower, the game crashes.
The original mod changed the game's initial locations, which is causing crashes. Open SSEEdit, load the .esp file of that follower/replacer mod, and delete the Location, Worldspace, and Cell entries ( if they exist ), and you're done.

How is this script different from your previous script?
This script has been refined and automated to include steps that you had to do manually in the V1 script, making it even easier and faster than before. The reason I created a new mod page for this script instead of updating the V1 mod page directly is that I need to check if any issues arise with this V2 script, as it’s more complex. I’ve tested it myself extensively without encountering any problems, but to be sure, I’ve kept it separate. Once I confirm that V2 is definitely stable. I will close the V1 mod page.
